'52 Olds fuel pump- how do you test it

I have a 1952 Olds Super 88 with a 303 engine. The car starts great but it's not running right. It's sputtering, loping and misses under a load. I've drained the gas tank thinking that was the problem but it didn't help. I've also replaced the spark plugs. . . still not right. Does anyone know how to test the dual-action fuel pump??? Could this be the problem???

Thanks!

Doubtful its the fuel pump. I would check dwell, timing, and carb settings. Look down into the carb and see if its drippling fuel while idling.

I agree it doesn't sound like a fuel pump but a easy way but not definitive( it won't be under any pressure) way to check a fuel pump can be achieved by removing the fuel line at the carburetor, put a 16 oz coke bottle on the fuel line then with the coil wire removed crank the engine over for 8 to 10 seconds it should fill the bottle about 1/2 full, if not pump is probably bad or could be theirs an air leak in the fuel line before the pump. Let us know how you come out on this...Tedd
