From your description something is allowing compression to blow down into the crankcase. Do a compression test for a cylinder with low pressure. You might find it before that when you pull the spark plugs to do the test if you find a really oily plug. Unless you can overhaul an engine and have the right tools you will need a mechanic. I know there are a ton of hot rods in NZ and quite a few Kiwis here in the States that specialize in sending American hot rods back home so you can probably get parts or even a different engine if it gets that serious. Good Luck.

It can also be a sticking lifter or it's got dirt in it not allowing it to pump up all the way.

Sounds like a hole in the piston to me.

compression and leakdown tests, followed by teardown and inspect as necessary.

If it's blowing oil out the breather, I agree: Holed piston or cracked rings (and piston, usually).

By the way, welcome to ClassicOlds, and... Why are you asking questions about a Buick motor on an Oldsmobile site?

Oh. Right. Of course.

You a private investigator or something?

I found it in the captions inside of his photo galleries, which have no photos in them.

Thanks... I guess...
