68 H/O checking in
68 H/O checking in
I hate typing long posts - because I just did and the site stated that I was not logged in!!! Joe Z here - N. IL - 68 H/O #415 originally delivered to Town's Edge Olds in Hopkins, MN. I'm the 5th and 7th owner.
Sorry - I had a bunch of details that were not saved in my long version.
Original block, heads and rear. Trans was defective from day one and was replaced back in the day with a 1967 date-coded off the shelf TH400 (no VIN on it - has some other number codes).
Car is a W45 (non-A/C) hard top with manual steering. Also, from new it did not have the tic-toc-tach/gages, wood wheel or SSIIs. It does have the wood on the dash; the BACK of the wood trim on the glove box door was numbered "501". I did talk to the original order and according to him it had some strange wheel covers when new - I am guessing they were PA1 covers; he put on aftermarket wheels (not Hurst wheels) within a few weeks of purchasing. Car now has the tach but no gages (I do have an NOS clock-cover), wood wheel and 14x6 SSIIs. Other than being a H/O, having an AM radio and tinted glass (all of the glass is original) it is basic. Car has under 45K miles on it, but is not prestine. That means I can drive it (and race it) with less worry! Car spent 71-88 in AZ (Jim Battle owned it at one time - someone here just did an appraisal for him) and I am greatful to be a caretaker for this one!

If you have typed more than a sentence or 2... before hitting "post"
ctrl-A to select all
ctrl-c to copy
if real worriesome, take that to a notepad document and paste it in
THEN hit POST and if it goes wrong you still have the text.
ALWAYS.

Welcome Joe !
I guess , I really wanted to say , " Hey Joe " ..
I think you have a beautiful car . I did spend some time around Towns Edge
Oldsmobile , in Hopkins in the 1960's .
Here is a little bit of trivia for you .
Google search , " Wally McCarthy's Town Edge Oldsmobile " and go into the first web site . It will give you a history of the guy that originally developed that dealership . My father did some independent work for that dealership .
Wally Mc Carthy currently owns a Cadillac dealership in Roseville MN .
He shows a phone # of 888 - 875 - 6825 .
When you look at all of his past achievements in the Oldsmobile world , perhaps he has a curator of old materials in the service and maintenance
or record keeping area .. Maybe you might be lucky and there could be something ... There is at least a 25 % chance I street raced against that car in 1969 or 1970 , or tracked against it at Minnesota Dragway's or Twin City Speedway....
It looks like the car is in good hands.. Thanks for sharing , Jim Tuma

The registry I have shows #415 as a W-45 as stated above with a Lansing #419772, invoice # L03668, a 2nd week of June 1968 build with engine # 8584613, shipped to Towns Edge Oldsmobile Hopkins, MN on 7/02/68 and bought by one Joe Zielinski of Libertyville, IL. It also shows real wood grain inserts and an AM radio
