1968 cutlass S conv.
Hello all, I recently found an original (except for one paint job) 1968 cutlass S convertible. All there and running well. It just needs to be rebuilt peice by piece. I had a '68 coupe as a kid and I must admit I'm a bit excited about rebuilding something from my past as opposed to "just another chevy". I'm looking forward to the expertise and advise this forum so generously offers.
While I'm here can anyone help me with trim and paint codes? The trim code is 943 and the paint code is D-4. I'm as curious about what it doesn't say as to what it does. I want to stay pretty original but would like to know what I can update or change without losing originality.

You don't see a lot of tops in anything but White & Black in 68. Nice Combo

Thanks for the info...the blue top is a bit rare huh? I was thinking of replacing it with white but now maybe not. One interesting thing. My coupe years back had a console and floor shift. This one has a column shift and no console. Would I be wrong in adding the console and changing the shifter to the floor?

Welcome to the site! There are lots of '68 and '69 Cutlass and 4-4-2 convertibles at this site so be sure to ask any questions you have. I agree that nearly all the convertible tops you see of that vintage are black or white. The only other colors you could get were blue or gold.
Personally, I'd keep the blue top and I'd keep the tranny on the column and forego the console. But I'm an "all original" sort of person. The bottom line is that you need to do what you want to do with your car. No matter how you finish it, it will be fun!
