1956 holiday
I have a 324,4 barrel carb. When my car stalls, it will not restart until it sit for a awhile, maybe an hour. If I turn it off, it will start back up. I have a new coil and resistor block, they ohm out good. It seems to be an electrical problem. It's getting gas. Could this be a bad ignition switch? Any help would be appreciated, Dadew.
It's not completely clear if you mean that the starter motor won't spin the engine or if the engine won't start while being spun. I'm assuming that the starter is doing its job without the engine starting. If it gets gas, you'll have to investigate the ignition system. When it won't start, check to see if there is sufficient high voltage to fire the spark plugs. If not, check further back in the ignition system to find the shortfall. While it could be the ignition switch, it could also be many other things. Analyze each component to verify its performance. Don't change parts unless you confirm that they are defective. Use your voltmeter to find the loss in required voltage. Obviously you must run the tests when it won't start.
X2, if you start adding new parts you are adding to the unknown. New stuff can be defective and complicate the diagnosis on top of your existing problems. As a after thought you might check all the connectors from the battery through to the points. If dirty or corroded they may lose continuity when hot and have it return when they cool down . ..Just a thought
