1956 Rocket 88 Holiday Sedan - Transmission failure

Greetings Classic Olds List!
I just got into restoring my 1956 Rocket 88 Holiday Sedan. It won't be a show car, I'd just like to get it to a point where it would be a fun cruiser for the local shows here on Long Island. Me and the guys at the shop are searching for info and help with the Hydramatic - Jetaway transmission.
We've already done a full brake rebuild and now getting into the tranny...
It will not go into reverse or when we put it into any gear it slips so much it barely moves forward! It rolls easy around the shop but that's about it!
Here are some pictures i took when we pulled off the pan and the internal filter to see if we would find anything cracked or snapped or popped.
any recomendations would be greatly appreciated!
you can send me an email as well at pavanza1@optonline.net

thanks!
phill

Welcome to the site!

Someone knowledgeable will chime in. I know nothing about this trans. But they used a flywheel and fluid coupling (I think) rather than a flex plate and torque converter. Just wondering if the fluid coupling (or whatever it's called) could be your problem.

Keep us posted on the car.

Welcome to the website. If your transmission is slipping and won't go into reverse it needs to be rebuilt. I would suggest finding a good transmission shop and having them go through it. Here is a website that might be helpful.

Work in Progress!

The breaks are done! and now the Transmission is back together! so far things are looking up for a spring time ride!!
like i said befire....this will not be stock- just a driver!! but a cool rockabilly machine!

check out the new dual core master... i haven't switched to disk, stickin with the drums for now!

the next step is the harmonic balancer also known as the crankshaft pulley..or torsion pulley...or damper...or something

I'm also looking for some tail light replacements, my bullets are sunburn white on top, look great on bottom...too bad i can't flip them..
