66 dynamic project
Hello fellow olds owners, I've been reading posts from this sight since I bought my car 1 month ago, thought I would become a member. I bought my car that had been sitting in a field for 10 years and not licenced in 20, thinking I would rebuild the motor but when I got It home and cleaned the fuel system to see
if it turned over it easely started and ran well, since it only had 70, 000 I decided ill save the rebuild for later. I have replaced the stock 2 brl with a performer 455 edelbrock and matching 750 carb, replaced the distributer with hei. Dual exaust is planed for next week. But I don't have alot of power I would like to spin the tires from a stop but have bad throttle response. Does anyone one have some advice or am I missing something? Will the exhaust be the trick?.
Just a simple back yard mechanic

hi and welcome,i too have a '66 delta 88 that i picked up a month ago in s.s.m.which i to want to get running.your's was already running, just do a compression check when it's warm and change all the fluids.check your rear end gear, these cars had low gears as in the number..i.e.2.90...start by reading various posts on diff. subjects as answer is out there..
Thanks for the response, its in the shop right now getting daul exaust, I asked them to check the timing while it's there when it gets back tomorow ill look into the rear end. Could a fluid level be the problem? .
Citcapp I like your 57 pic I had a 56 4 dooralso that I restored and 10 years later traded for a 66 tbird

66 dynamic
standard ratio on the 66 dynamic is listed as 3:23,regardless the 425 should be able to sizzle a 14" tire thru 1st and second.timing is an excellent start, old gas or the shellack that forms from old gas can contaminate new gas and make it run slow for a couple tanks, also is the switch-pitch working? I hope you included the left manifold when sending it in for duals,it's quite an undertaking to do them without it.good luck with the dynamic

Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold and at the carb base as well. Vacuum leaks will rob power too
Well. I found a vacume leak under the dash, there might be more but i pluged it for now. Waiting for a meter to check the volts on the hei.I don't think the rear end is the problem has a lot of power just doesn't burn the rubber. I've spent what time I've had off installing my new seats and building a console kinda took from the original but I love it

I agree it might be that the rear end ratio is the issue. Could also be a combination of things including timing, etc
