Another cutlass! I must be a addict
Just bought another cutlass, a 1970 Supreme. my wife asked me why, when I had a 72 cutlass supreme setting behind the fence, and a 73 442 in the garage. I told her the car seen me, and talked to me, it said, "Please safe me, make my a great car again". so I bought it!
The previous owner had bought it in 1990, drove it 10 years, then decided it needed a full body off restoration. So in 2000, he took the whole car apart, but he had never did a restoration before, so nothing was tagged, nothing was bagged, and all the bolts went into cans, and boxes, parts were put in boxes the part would fit into, so I have interior parts, with engine parts.
Over the next 16 years the car was moved from place to place 4 times, so parts have been lost along the way. One last negative thing, he sprayed bed liner on the floors, trunk floors, and firewall, that stuff on the floors is fine, but I want to paint the firewall gloss black, so if any of you know a easy way to remove it, I'm all ears. He wasn't good at body work, any dents or low spots were filled with Bondo, the left rear quarter has a dent , the size of a base ball, he filled it with Bondo, and keep chasing the dent, now it has a good amount of filler, I will be taking that all out ,and hammering out that dent.
On the plus side, the car has little rust,, the floors, trunk floors, quarters, and fenders, even the roof are solid! but the part between the rear window and trunk is cut out, so I need to replace that, and the bottom corners, on both sides of rear window are rusted,. The previous owner took the car down to bare metal, and sealed it with something ( that was two years ago) in the pictures the car is still down to bare metal. He had the frame powder coated, installed all new shocks, springs, brakes, gas and brake lines, and all new front end steering kit, new gas tank.
Now I need to get off of here, and head out to the garage! wish me luck.

True, I could have a lot worst habit. At lest my wife doesn't yell at me , lets me buy cars when the voice tells me to, she just likes to blow me s*** now and then, that's cool, I give her a ruff time whenever I can , so it evens out. As for firewall, I tried stripper, it made it sticky and very hard to scrap off( would take a long time) I tried a little heat, with heat gun, same thing, sticky and hard to scrap. Maybe I will just paint gloss black spray paint over it!

got motor painted, trans hooked to the motor, and the motor dropped in, still have a long way to go, but progress ! The headers went right in, no problems, but oil filter adapter was off, and steering shaft is out, that helped . need to pick up motor mount bolts, intake bolts, and get those valve covers painted tomorrow . here are some pictures.

For the 3rd time, I still haven't learned! I bought another cutlass 72 supreme. this is one of the worst ones I have ever bought, but it had a new quarter skin on the roof of car , and the other quarter skin attached to the car. don't know what's inside car yet, lots of scrap metal, and hub caps. I thought I got it cheap, paid less then what the skins go for, and it came with a good title.

Thanks. I used fiber strand where I welded in the replacement window channel and filled the seams where the filler panel meets the quarters, That stuff is harder to sand then I thought it would be. But it should hold up better then bondo, I hope!

Some more pictures, I can't believe how solid this car is, original floors, quarters. And also how many tools do you need to replace the rear filler panel , between rear window and trunk. and do body work!

Definitely an addict.
Talking about me. I found myself today looking at the rafters in my garage and wondering if I could hang a frame there till I finished with the next body. I found one I need. I am apparently a serial cutlass collector.

It's taken my wife and I 30 + years to get to this point. ( yes she worked too to get me to this point) . I started out in two car garage( first pic) yes are cars go in there, but my wife has it set up for garage sale. then built a 24 x 40 ( next 4 pics) then I built another 24 x 40 ,but with two doors ( 6th picture ) then the new one. ( last 4 pics).

made some progress on the 70 cutlass today, got those jambs all painted up. Now to put these parts back on the car for good, and get that hood out of box and start on it! It has taken me a long time of primer , block sand, primer, block sand, primer, block sand. but I'm there.

more progress yesterday, put the doors, and trunk lid on. And put my radiator support into paint. The yellow tape is holding rubber hose in place , so doors will not hit door jambs, and rub paint.

pulled the hood out of the box, has been setting on top of a car for around a year now ! not the best hood, but you get what you pay for. I found this hood on craigslist, 15 miles from me, the man that sold it , gave up on his project, and was selling all the parts for about half price at that time. I see waves and low spots, ( glass hood ) . holes for air intake don't look right, and I can see pop-rivets in the openings . will be doing a lot of primer and block sanding. Any advice on priming and painting a fiberglass hood?

When I get to that point, I'm going without a stripe , and see what it looks like, then decide stripe or no stripe. I was thinking a black stripe, because the car will have black interior and a black vinyl top.
