big step towards getting her fired up

Buddy came over Sunday and we put the dash in! Got all the original wiring connected back up just need to do a little more wiring for the new accessories. I need to remove the steering wheel, and take the column apart. The outer collar( it was a column shift automatic) moves a back and forth a little when you turn the steering wheel-right and left not in and out. Any ideas what is wrong? An images of the trunk-up until recently it was full of goodies to install! I just need to finish installation of a new wiring harness, get the correct bulbs and the trunk is done

Well its been a bit since I updated the thread, however made a lot of progress during a 3 month sabbatical from work. That's changed now and back at work. During that time-most of the re-wiring is done, dash is in, A/C system is installed and tons of little detail work. Just to get the car in the street and with a stock 67 BB Olds 400E ( 67 442 motor), I had the old drive shaft sandblasted, painted, new U joints now all hooked up to the Moser 9 inch. Lokar Kick down for the 200-R4 is in as with the Lokar tranny dip stick and gas pedal. I wired the converter to unlock either by touching the brake pedal or vacuum. B@M Bandit Shifter is installed as with the wiring up the neutral safety switch. Fuel line is installed, however if I build the BB Olds 425 I will use an electric fuel pump and change it out for 1/2 inch braided. Have an issue getting the Lokar throttle cable to work with this particular Q-jet throttle shaft, talked to the guys at Lokar and I think I can get it right-stay tuned. Parking brake cable assembly and hardware all in.The 400E came out of the 67 442 with maybe 3000 miles on motor since rebuild with a lot of external goodies for the 425.. Started polishing the trim for the back window and windshield, I'm amazed how its turning out for 51 years old! In the next few weeks will have the front and rear glass installed. Still have some work and issues with door glass and regulators and still need an a complete interior including welding in front seat brackets and having the exhaust installed, bought a complete Flowmaster 3 inch mandrel system with the tail pipes exiting behind the rear tire, like an early GTO or 396 Chevelle with Flow master 44's. Pretty much decided on Pro-Car Rally seats with Wesco 4-point Harnesses. Pictures of the finished trunk with a "Old School" Sound Stream Rubicon 300Watt amp in a built in Boom Box plus additional detail images. I want to keep the big car GM 15x7 steelies and will check the stance after the car settles and get some fatties in the rear and keeping the 51 year old poverty hub caps. Love the base model stealth look. This summer-fall after I get all the bugs worked out and enjoy the driving the car with the AC on in Texas summer heat, I will decide when to take it apart and ?????? Our sponsors and members in this club gave me to many ideas, BUT at least it no longer a "Rust Bucket" from Ohio, taking it apart will be a breeze. Enjoy and "Stay Thirsty my friend"

Rob, I would install the headliner before you install the windshield and rear glass really makes life easier, windlace is a breeze too with them out.

I pm'ed you on the other sight a good write up and asking if I gave you a window rail from a 4 door could you fix the one you have ?

By the way "WOW" she is a beauty!

Oldstata, thanks for bringing up putting in the headliner yourself. I was talking to a good friend on mine today and low and behold he knows how to put these in and will help me! Stay tuned.

Wow - it's looking great. Your car is getting me even more motivated on mine. I'm probably a year away from where you are. That rally stripe sure is trick - I just might.

Thanks Solo, Im getting ready to order the headliner, sail panels, sunvisors and everything else thats needed. Most likely going to use Ames Performance, although the Tempest-GTO's used a different pattern cloth they have really great pricing and Im almost certain the roof line and sail panels on a Tempest post car is the same. Looking around for a cool interior dome/map light, not using the stock old lights.

I will look for the dome light, maybe the bezel is okay but the lens has turned a bit yellow, but I will check. As far as the pass side window channel, the club member that said he had one never responded to me. So I'm still in need.

Oldstata, sent you PM, I actually found another window sash channel so between the two, I fabbed up a good one. Buddy of mine has a TIG, that dog is in Maui on a 3 week vacation. But when he gets back he can TIG weld it all up. May cost me a case of Miller Lite.

It's been a few months a lot of little things got done but the heat of summer here slowed my progress down a bit. AC is all in only have a few wires under the dash to connect to it. Under the hood is 99% done, have to run a radiator over flow line to a catch can and run windshield washer lines, bleed the brake lines and master. A friend of mine came over and helped me (a lot) install the headliner and sail panels, I put up sound deaden-er instead of the replacement insulation. Next up is getting the rear window and windshield cleaned up and installed, adding all the fluids and start this puppy up. Then order the front seats, seat brackets, carpet and door panels OUCH$$$$.

Guys its been a bit, I will update with pictures soon, The headliner is in, next week the windshield and back glass get installed. Having issues to solve with the Lokar throttle cable binding with Qjet and not allowing WOT. I tried fabbing brackets, I just don't think its compatible with the type the throttle lever on this Q-jet.

Nonhog, I actually routed out the cigarette lighter a bit and installed a charging station for your cell, I pads etc. The volume hole for the AM radio was routed out too and I installed the 12volt A/C compressor switch and will light up in blue LED when you press the button. I plan on making a radio delete plate for the radio hole. I did not want to cut that restored dash so I put the head unit for the sound system in the glove box and all set up for blue tooth streaming from my IPhone. Pandora or Sirus radio etc.

Hey Robski I've been meaning to ask, and forgive my Olds lack of knowledge. I really like the stripes on your decklid and hood, does that carry over the roof too? And is that a stripe setup that Olds used on some model/year? Or did you come up with that to suit your taste? Either way it looks fantastic, especially on the red base. I was thinking of having a local vinyl/graphics place make up some stripes for me that I could lay on the car, move them side to side etc to see how they looked. Then maybe apply them in paint. Thanks in advance!

Yes mine were painted and extended into the front of the dash, same in the rear. Got the 65 factory dimensions from Bro's site-indeed it was a dealer installed vinyl kit back in 65 only.

Friend of mine came out and installed the windshield and back glass Sunday. Although not perfect, the car has all the original glass with all the stampings! I still have to install the passenger side window and mess with the rear qtr. regulators-not working as they should. Also soon as I can figure out why the Lokar gas pedal and throttle assembly binds up, I can move on and start getting this baby ready fireup!

Stardate 05-31-16, the glass is all in, headliner in, almost all the wring is done except for a few things under the dash. Its getting close I have reinforcements coming over next weekend to help me figure out my throttle cable issue. Have to weld in the the new seat brackets and (partially ruin the undercoating) that was put on while the body was on the rotisserie at the body shop. So today, I pushed her out of the shop and gave her a good wash job. I will not have her ready for the 2016 Power Tour, but there's next year. BUT, I'm flying up to Milwaukee for the Car Craft Nationals in July if any you gear-heads from the Club will be there, lets hook up! Few pictures.

The glass is all 64 LOF-not perfect but is original to the car. A little jewelers polish on the glass and stainless made a huge difference.

When the car settles down I will figure out where we are with the ride height and get some good tires on those big Olds 15x7 steelies. The rear is a little high for me with stock height Hotchkis springs. Few more pictures:

Why not bolt the seat frames in? Use big heavy washers or plates under the floor, run the bolts up from the bottom with nuts under the seat. Everything is looking great.

Love the Post!

It's been awhile since I heard from you, the car looks great. I cannot remember, what drive train are you running in this beauty? Been enjoying mine, sold the 71, looking for a Ram Rod, 68 vintage. You are doing a great job! Please keep in touch. Great pics.

OTHAII, your 64 is stunning. Drive train behind the 67 400E, is a highly modified 200R4 built by Jack Laswell here in the Dallas area. It's overkill for the 400E (actually the whole drive train and suspension) but if I build the 425 all I need to do is change the converter. Very good friend and is very well known in the Buick GN racing circuit. That's hooked up to a Moser 9inch/355 gear. The only thing left under the car from 64 is the frame and the drive shaft. I blasted the drive shaft, rattle canned it with some gun metal gray paint and installed Spicer u joints only to get the car in the street. Going have a 3 inch built soon after we get her started. I got 7 years in this build and I can assure you, it will be a one of at any car show. No expenses spared, just spent some of my sons inheritance that's all.!
