Talked to a good buddy of mine who hauls cars and my friends wife who worked at the tag agency and I'm screwed its either an indemnity bond or find owner cause DMV doesn't give that info out apparently boy oh boy what did I get myself into

 

Well, that's bad news.

I suppose a bond involves tying up a lot of money for a period of time.

My advice: Build your engine, and keep an eye out for another Olds without an engine that you can bolt it into. Preferably a slightly older model.

Or maybe a different brand.

Anything, really.

Can't you do a abandonment title ? Not sure on your state but Utah will give you last owner name on title and if you have property that is unclaimed for six months it's yours

What do i do if I can't I gotta keep the car cause that's what you guys helped me out with. Keep it as a builder and find me a cutlass that can be a dd while I save money to do a bond

 

So, Bill, what exactly is the story of this car that you dragged out of the woods?

Who sold it to you?
Did they tell you that they didn't have a title?
Did they tell you why?
Did they tell you they could get one?
Did they know the actual owner?
Did they ever actually own the car themselves?
If they didn't know who owned the car before them, how could they claim they owned it now?
If they did know who owned it before, why can't they get in touch with him?

Lots of questions. If you can answer them, it may help you get a title.

There should be a process to apply for title of an abandoned vehicle. Your best off to call your state DMV. Local offices rarely know what they are talking about in instances such as this because they are so rare. Next step would be the State Police. Since you already know it wasn't reported stolen they may very well be your best bet at getting the correct answers as to how to get a title. Believe it or not they can be good for something besides writing speeding tickets.

 

Actually, most of them get kind of annoyed writing speeding tickets and taking accident reports after a while, so they are often happy to help you with something different.
Heck, if you're a kid and you ask a couple of intelligent questions, they may try to recruit you.

A friends dad was an Ohio State Trooper. Actually a pretty good dude. His name alone got me out of a ticket or two when I was in my twenties. I had once bought an out of state vehicle that the title was one off from the vin. Had to take it to inspection so they could make sure entire car was of one vin before they would issue a corrected title. The guy was pretty good about showing me where the numbers should be and how different parts of the vin were located in different areas of the car.

That all sounds reasonable, and a lot like the "usual story."

It sounds like there may be some hope of finding the original lady who sold the car. If so, that would be the best bet, as she could get a "lost title" replacement for probably just a few bucks, and you'd be all set. Your best use of your energy may be to lean on the seller to try to track her down.

I know this stinks but you have learned a big lesson here. No title = no money for any car you plan on driving, it is really as simple as that.

 

Yupp I knew I needed a title but just thought I could get a salvage title cause in a way I did salvage it

 

OK so I just found out it was bought in nc and they bought from original owners 10. Years agoshe said shes gonna make some calls and find out by the weekend hopefully

Duplicate titles shouldn't be more than about thirty bucks.

In other news my timing chain lifters (which I have to soak in oil before install....I've learned and remembered loll) and bearings came in today yaaaaayyy

 

We've debated soaking lifters here before.
Some of us say No, others say Yes.
I say it's a waste of energy and completely unnecessary.

We can have that debate again now, if we're very unlucky.

I can get a used height accel 59113 (I think that's the right combo of number) dizzy for 59 and shipping on eBay should I do it I'm waiting on pics I know the run new for like 2-300 I think this is a deal even if I do have to do a little refreshing on it

Here it is on auto parts warehouse I can get a used one on eBay for 59 plus shipping

 

You won't notice any performance or reliability difference between that one and any other HEI.
For your purposes, I'd get one from a junk yard or from a member on here. You'll need to recurve it no matter what you do, unless you go for a points distributor from the late '60s instead, and considering how many people change those out, they should be even easier to pick up cheaply.

You've got plenty of time right now. No need to rush to spend money. If you wait, things will often show up very cheap or free.

Yeah, I would do that.

The Accel may have some parts that are constructed more robustly, but in your situation, that just won't matter. Remember, completely stock ones can go hundreds of thousands of miles, so how much stronger does it need to be?

How much information do you have on them?

For a few bucks online, you can find out an amazing amount about people, especially older people who still have home phones and such.

Track these people down like scared rabbits.

It's an old car, I would think they would know what to do. You dragged it out of someone elses yard after buying it as scrap. You decided it was wrong to scrap it and want to put it back together.

Yes and idk I have to have to agents value the car and then its 1.5% of tax value but if not running they issue a non op title then I have to get itovinf so I can vet the bonded title ugghhh

 

Well 1.5 of scrap cost shouldnt be much then. At least it's not running and a fixer upper cheap lesson. If it taxes at 1000.00 it's only like 15 bucks
