So the 71 was getting loney...
Inner race? When I pulled my axle out the race came out with it and was flopping around on the axle. I assumed it would have been pressed in or something like brake rotors but it wasn't. I am thinking this is probably not good. I also found out I have some in and out end play movement. I can move the entire axle in and out of the housing. I have not measured it, just did the grab and pull test and there is definitely some play. Not a great amount but enough to know it's probably not supposed to be there.
1. Really enjoyed all the pics and info.
2. Lucky to have a wife that likes to work on cars, more so she being easy on the eyes!!
Pics of the UPS chick would be nice. (Hope my wife doesn't see this post!!!)
Seriously, killer thread!!!

I think the '70 442's had the tapered roller bearing axle. So the race should stay in the housing. If it fell out, there may be some issue's. Should check the service manual, to be sure.
Also did you get the "Summit" deal worked out ??

Summit: Sir, we can't get the backing plates we have no way to get them I dont even have a listing number anymore. We found out it's better to run without them on the rear so we stopped carrying them.
me: Then how come I call SSBC and they still offer them with there kits qwhich BTW, the kit you sent me is the same ones they have with backing plates. Only difference is your kit was 479.99 theres is 520.99 with backing plates. Why did you offer them in the listing, according to the kit once I got it all bolted up I was 1/4" shy and sloppy because there were missing.
Summit: You could just put a few washers in there were the backing plates would go to take up space issues and let the bolts not bottom out. Yes sir we do use other manufacturars items and we sell them under our name when we are low on supply of our own stock. So we find comparable quality items to substitue.
Me: I am not using any washers when clearly the kit was designed for backing plates. I called SSBC and they can sell me the plates seperatly for 99.99. You guys screwed up not me you are covering the cost of them not me. I refuse to pay for the plates when they were clearly listed in the ad. Had you listed they were not included guess what, I would be the proud owner of a nice SSBC kit on my car. Not some half assed put together stripped down rebranded kit you sent me. You probably steal the backing plates from the kits and sell them by themselves.
Summit: We do not do that. Thats the craziest thing I have ever heard. You need to understand we make mistakes on that ad but we will correct it.
Me: No you made a mistake on everyone of your brake kit ads for all makes and models and there STILL showing on there. Why have you not removed the pictures or the listing that says there included?
Summit: There is a disclaimer in place that says if we dont have it we will substitue as well as some of our information may be incorrect.
Me: So your saying you lured me into buying a kit I thought had certain items then you switched it on me and sent me other crap wrapped in summit toliet paper?. Disclaimer or not I am pretty sure that sounds like bait and switch if not false advertisement. Either way, if your not going to cover the cost then good luck getting your money out of me. I already did a charge back through paypal and was refunded all my money for the oder and for good measure I closed that bank account tied to it and started a new one. Thanks for the free parts
Summit: Click
Thats about exactlly how the call went. Not even a send it back, not even so much as a sorry. He spent the entire time making excuses, defeding the fact that I was baited into buying an item that did not have the parts I thought I was getting. Granted it's only a small part and most people would probably just move on and I would have to had I not got the idiot girl the first night that thinks my money spent with them isn't **** and sorry about my luck buying a kit missing parts. After the phone call with her and the call with this guy they can all kiss my ***.
My rotors were also supposed to be drilled and slotted. The ones they sent are standard flat rotors. Headers were obviously for a different car. The intake I bought from them has a crack from the factory at a water jacket. It looks as if the aluminum did not fill very well. Its more of bubbles than cracks but I could easily see a leak here. One of the heads I bought in the pushrod hole is rough and has slag all down inside of it. I habe to get it re-drilled to clean it out before I can use it. Normally these are issues I just fix and don't complain about when I buy **** from them. Not anymore..screw them and there customer service. It's apparant they don't need my business so I'll keep my money and goods and shop elsewhere.
My nice 200.00 hood I picked up today. Drove about 5 hours each way to get it but for 200.00 it was worth it.
Needs some work it had a couple small knicks and scratches but otherwise it's pretty good fit. Right now I'm fighting gap issues where I have a high gap on drivers side and tight on passenger side. I have fiberglass springs on it and the old hood fit fine so it's def in this hood. If I get it to where it's straight across the front then the passenger hits bad. If I gfet it to where the pass side is straight drivers is horrible.
Fight fight fight LOL
Still for 200.00!! Can't beat it.

Black vinyl top goes on this week as well as the interior headliner. Package tray is in and looking good. Seat covers and door panels will be in this week sometime. I also had my factory bumper re-chromed and it will be finished this week along with a few other parts. Then I am going to have the paint touched up in several spots. Install the rest of the trim and I'll be done.
Thoughts.... Wheel well molding or not? I can't decide.

Picture taken in a flea market parking lot. I am undecided if I want to put the wheel well trim on. Thoughts? The vinyl top goes on this week so that will make it stand out more.

My lovely wife doing work. She removed the rear diff cover, scraped all the old gasket off, cleaned the cover of rust and paint and prepped it for reinstall. Then helped me pull axles so we could do the rear disc conversion until we found out summit screwed us on parts.

Imaging showing from instructions that backing plates should be in kit.

Rear disc conversion to be continued.

I like it without the trim, Good choice of wheels. I know what you mean on the summit orders, I plan on sending 3 out of 6 parts back everytime I order.
In the past few months they sold me a gas tank, that was pictures with the filler neck, but came with no filler neck then I called them and they told they didnt make a filler neck for that tank???? Then they send me a inline billet fuel filter good for up to 250 hp for a 455, then they send me 1/2 fuel lines with 3/8 fitting kits grrrrrrr.
Hard to believe it is the same car i found in the pole barn almost 2 years ago. i forgot i had some pictures of it the way i found it. i am excited to see it with the top installed. with a black top and those wheels i think i would leave the trim off the wheel wells.

So thanks to Scott(oldspackrat) I got my rear end swapped out today. I will be running a taller gear for now which suits me fine as I do a lot of daily driving in the car. I am going to send the original over to monzaz to get some bearings installed and the diff going through to make sure everything is in working order. I don't want to keep the high gear in there but I don't really want the 3:42 under it either. So I think for now my goal is to find a nice 3:08 or 3:23 to keep under it with emphasis on finding the first mentioned. Hard to believe only 6 bolts keeps this entire rear end under the car. Crazy! Glad to have my baby back on the road again!

So I haven't posted in a while been kinda busy with things, new house and all. I had the car for sale for a couple weeks but the W30 I was going to buy when my car sold is long gone. Good thing, I was about tired of dealing with the sofa shoppers and tire kickers. I don't understand why people who are not financially able to purchase a car even bother with contact. If you don't have it, or can't get it then why waste others time? People, I tell ya.
Any who, my gal now sports powder coated front steering, tie rods, drag link, pitman arm, idler arm, all of it is new and looks great. I fixed a couple small leaks I had. Had the package tray installed, head liner, shift kit in the tranny, had a ton of small parts re-chromed. Goes in Tuesday for the vinyl top..let's see if the guy actually get it's installed this time instead of keeping the car for a week and never touching it. Fixed a ton of small exhaust leaks where the shop missed spots.
Replaced all sending units, finished installing the small trim in the car and finalized the carpet cut and glued down. Welded in the bracket for the console. Sprayed the jambs, hood, trunk and interior pieces with new Aspen Green paint so now all thats left is the exterior. Finished the restoration job on the tail lights, parking lights. Lots and lots of minor things here and there.
My next tasks are after it gets back from vinyl top install is to put all the trim back on followed by the rear end back in it after new bearings. Jim is going to take care of this for me he has excellent prices and is 4 hours away so shipping is pretty cheap. Won't know how to act with my 3.42 back in her.
I must say, with the new AGR gear box, full front steering rebuild this car handles so awesome. It feels better and tighter than my Evo 8 did. Corners are tight, little to no body roll, absolutely no play in steering. Most of the play to begin with was due to the drag link. Here I thought the gear box was bad so I threw on this 400.00 AGR and it wasn't even the case. Drag link was the culprit all along. 40.00 part fixed it all but what the hell, it is all new now.
Hoping to get the entire car painted over winter and throw her up on a lift and do as much as I can to frame and underside with out having to remove the body. I really want to do a frame off but I just don't have time, room, or equipment to do so.
Few shots of my gal after I finished the front end rebuild for a test drive.
