Final assembly, Brian spent a lot of time adjusting the doors to get the gaps just right. After the panels are hung he will lay out the stripes, and shoot them.

Inline has the core support straps, but they are kind of semi-opaque and thin. Ames has the best straps out there, different lengths are available, and I think they even have the correct stamping on them. One car would use many different length straps.

All of the straps on the core support are the same length, and after a short search easy to find.

I know all the core straps are the same length. The valve cover wire + hose retainer straps are shorter and I think the gas sender strap is a different length than those 2. Your car looks like it's coming along nicely.

I bead blasted and painted a few items today...interesting that the head light buckets are stamped a,b,c,d.. Sorry for the crappy pic. I polished the headlight retainers, and all I can say to aspiring polishers-be careful, wear gloves and eye protection.

Way to go Lance! Do you think there is a chance that you will make the Zone show?

Lance, you might want to consider installing the fender peak moldings before hanging the fenders. It can be difficult to get those stamped steel nuts on after the fenders are on.

Already done, and I'm installing the trim and marker lights before installation. Yah the speed nuts were a PIA, had to tape them to my socket.

Question: did the 71 442 stripe option include the trunk stripes, or were they a separate option, I'm thinking about not striping the deck lid. I guess I could dig out my build sheet
O.K., I did, so would the Y70 side stripes always include the decklid stripes, I've seen cars with and without..

If it is similar in concept to the 72 stripes, it would always include the deck lid stripes. The PIM makes no exception for the side and deck lid stripes to be "delinked" from each other.

But I don't have a 71.

Yet.

I really like the simplified version Lance, it is really looking sharp. The red looks richer than the previous version. Ultimately what matters is what you like though. However, as excited as you were, I would still advise against the airbrushed barbarian carrying the bare breasted goddess on the hood though..

How about skulls running down towards the 442 emblems?. Waiting for the painter to finish buffing the hood. The stripes are the last project, I'm ready to take the car home and finish the detailing. I'm still confident we can make the NTOC Zone Show.

Since my car has the Y73 stripe, the stone shield will be masked along with the hood and taken off for paint. The grilles and stone sheild are installed as one unit.

The stripe layout is time consuming to get right...I wonder where the Olds designers came up with the stripe dimensions....?

Here's Brian painting the stripes using single stage Cameo white. The hours to layout the stripes and mask and paint are at least 30....
