I installed new body mounts today, about 3hrs, and no issues except my Craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet developed stripped gears.

Has anyone used Fusicks repro door handles? I bought a pair, and then heard they don't fit, I did a trial fit and they look perfect..comments

Lance, I think it is hit or miss. I bought a repo set years ago (1999) for the Hurst - they were awful. The set I bought last year for the vert from Fusick fit perfectly. Not as much heft to them as the O.E's but a nice piece nonetheless.

Since the car is 45 mins. away....can the a/c condensor be detached from the core support leaving the lines connected? I'm having the support painted, but it would be easier off the car, and my painter would have a stroke if I discharged R12 in his shop)
I checked the AM, and I think this plan will work??

Actually I bought some beaded door handle gaskets from Rubbertherightway.com
, and they fit the handles perfect, I even bought another set for Costpenn..
They are an exact match to my originals, or maybe mine were replaced.

Lance, after you undo the four side bolts with funny looking nuts that hold the condenser brackets to the core support, you have to undo that one screw that holds one of the lines with a little clamp to the support. At at that point you can move the condenser assy, but I think you will be very limited as to how much you can move it without breaking the lines loose - either at the condenser or the originating point of the lines.

Thanks Joe, I'm going to take my toolbox out next week. After seeing your core support blasted and primed I decided to try pulling it, or moving it out for blasting.
BTW, your body is in the booth today getting a coat of DP90..

Thanks Aaron, not in a race, but the painter has a great work ethic. Today Suse dropped off her '65 for some polishing, I hope to get a pic of all 3 Oldsmobiles in Brian's shop..

Gosh, isn't that in two weeks? Anyhow, I'm planning on attending, are you coming up for the show? At least a few NTOC Oldsmobiles are in the show..and one badazz Pontiac.

Let me know if you're going to attend, I would like to meet you..
I have replaced or polished or refurbed all of the trim in the last few years so I'm good to go on most items. The weatherstrips were replaced 10 years ago, but I am replacing all of it with soft seal product. I just hope I'm not building a garage queen, going to take it on the Power Tour in June, hope it doesn't get to many chips

Do you mind if I ask about how much a paint job like that cost ? Getting bids now to do and would like some guidelines. Thanks

The restoration shops I talked to pretty much all charged around 50 bucks per hour, and if the body doesn't have to be stripped to bare metal, figure 200 hrs., + materials.
I know someone is going to say they had their Olds done for less, you get what you pay for in good body and paint work..

I pulled the core support so it can be blasted and painted, fairly easy job to detach the a/c condensor first, I used a board to support the condensor, saved me having to discharge 4# of R-12.

One of the NTOC members 65 Olds was also at the shop for trim adjustment, Brian (the painter) painted it last year. Awesome 65!

I had ideas on how to salvage the freon that mirrored what you ultimately have done, I assumed you may think that it would be rather unorthodox and would not do it. I am glad that you were able to pull it off though and saved "my precious" R12!! I am licensed and can buy it retail, but am so glad that I bought a lifetime supply in 2009 when I was chilling in Bolivia.. I still cringe at the idea of releasing it!! Looking forward to seeing the finished product with the ultra cool gearbox.

Mucho nice Lance. Did you gave any trouble with the core support to frame bolts?

Well, I had to twist them off, which I expected. I have a new set of bushings and bolts from ILT. There are a lot of fastners on the core support, maybe I can talk Joe into restoring them?)

I'm testimony to the work this place does and the effort Lance goes through to make it right the first time, I was out there with him yesterday. Car is going to be a masterpiece, it's becoming way beyond driver quality.

And, It's especially satisfying to see a younger guy like a Brian Vastine start his own business, work hard, and be a pleasurable guy to deal with in the auto paint and body biz - a rarity indeed.

Great thread. Car is coming along nicely. How did you paint the core support? Enamel or Powdercoat? I am gonna pull my front end and not sure which way to go.

thanks

The paint is single stage urethane, medallion black, which is an exact match to Eastwoods' underhood black.
