Well I have been on and off again to sell this thing as I try to get back on my financial feet after the shop and the twins. I can't get so much as a bite on the car as is so its time to do something about it.

The am going to try to get the motor out and apart this weekend. I'm going to get it back on the road to make it easier to sell and I can drive it in the mean time.

Tonight I soaked it down with Purple Power and went to town with the pressure washer. I hate working on anything with an inch of caked grease and dirt.

Richard I think it's just bad timing, or bad economy,or both, or this car would have been gone by now.
I like the flat top wagons,so I wish I could buy it. I have to much going on right now, or I think you and I would have made a deal on that car.
The 65 that I bought has started smoking now. I have been trying to help it with sea foam, but I think it is too late. The car runs real good, and smooth, but smokes real bad now.

Yeah, the economy and the holidays isn't helping for sure. Maybe after the first of the year you will have more luck. Such a cool looking wagon!

Glad to see you are putting some wrenching into it. Getting it running reliably and not leaking will be a HUGE plus in selling it. You would get more $, too! Keep the thread updated - would love to see the progress in pics!

Gee, now that you have all the space in the engine bay, you might as well do the suspension, brakes, steering and detail that sucker. Any plans for the 350 or is it going back stock rebuild?

BTW that shop looks nice! Why don't you post a thread introducing us to your new work area?? I only saw the beginning of it way back.....

It will be stock or real close to it. The least expensive way I can get it back on the road but without cutting major corners.

The shop is what it is. I was burned bigtime and I still have to fix the leaking walls so can wire the damn thing. I have 5 plugs on one wall and most of th lighting so I can get things done but I still have lots to do to get it to what I want it to be. Right now its basicly a lighted storage barn.

Sandwich in one hand wrench in the other. To bad you got screwed on the construction of the building, do you have any recourse with the builder. leaking wall suck and ruin the insulation.

Karma will come and bite him in the *** one day.

Well some days you should just stay in bed. Things went down hill in a hurry today. I got out to the shop this moring to do a little clean up and then jumped back on the wagon. Pulled the heads off the 350 and got a nice supprise at the #3 water jacket. Not only do I have 2 different heads I have a junk block too.

72wagon001-1.jpg?t=1322443355

The down hill slide continued mid afternoon. Rob had a friend that needed a car moved and asked if I would do it to make a few bucks. All went well with the move and I stopped to grab a bite on the way home. I go to leave and I justed stated rolling and the truck shuts off. I thought I had accidently started in 3rd and killed it so I put the clutch back in and hit the starter. All I hear is the motor rolling over. I was down hill in the parking lot so I rolled to the bank that was closed next door so I would be out of the way. I called my wifes uncle to come get my trailer and called the wrecker co. we use at work. As I am waiting for the wrecker I am going over what little I can in a bank parking lot. I crawl under the truck and bang on the tank and hear a really hollow sound. I was relieved a little that it might be something as simple as running out of fuel ever though I still showed 1/4 tank. Even if thats all it was I had no tools to get it going there I walked to the Autozone next door and picked up a tank and went to the gas station across the street. I walked back to the truck with my 5 gallons of diesel and waited for the wrecker.

45 min later I was home. I open the fuel filter housing and cycled the key every 20 seconds 5-6 times to get the lift pump to fill the filter bowl. I closed that up and cracked open and few injector lines crossed my fingers and prayed my $1800 injector pump was ok. After about 3-4 20 second cranking sessions I started seeing fuel spitting out the cracked lines. One more try and she sputtered. Finally she fired. I quickly hopped out and tightened the two lines that were spraying fuel everywhere. Looks like the pump is ok

So I made $60.00 towing a car and it cost me about $75.00 to get mine home. Sometimes all you can do is laugh.

On to plan B with the wagon. Several years ago I bought a 67 Cutlass 4 door parts car. It came with a 455 that was tarped up outside still under the tree that had the chain and hoist still hanging from it. I have never so much as touched it other than put a wrench on it to see if it was free or not. Its been sitting in the back of my garage burried behind all my sheet metal fab equipment that will go in the shop one day. I moved everything around and snaked it of of the garage. Looking at it I see it's a FA block with J heads and an EGR valve so I am guessing its a 73-74 motor.

First I pulled all the plugs and they all looked decent so I busted out the shop vac and sucked down the intake to make sure no leaves or trash were in there. I saw there was no drain plug so I robbed the one from the 350 and the starter too. I added 3 quarts of oil and bolted up the starter. I hooked up a battery and a make shift switch to do an on stand compression test. In the middle my shop helper also wanted to work the switch. I have mixed feelings about the results. 5 of the clys went right up to 120-125. On more followed up to 120 after the repeated rotations from the other clys. I have 2 holes that even after spraying oil in the hole are only up to about 80. One started at 80 and never moved the other worked its way up from 20 up to 80.

I'm not sure what my next step is. If I use the 455 I need a carb and exhaust that I don't have. Also the car is a TH350 and I am not real comfortable using a 455 with a stock TH350. I'm not sure if the two low holes are rings stuck from sitting and if warmed up it would go right up or I really have a problem. I am going to just have to sleep on what my next move will be. What to do ...What to do...

I would put it in and run it,I think it will be fine. You could just start it up out of the car just to see how it does after a warm up. BTW you might need front springs now! Oh and a timing set. I'm sure you have thought about that stuff though.

I would't mind the help or just to shoot the crap with another car guy but my problem is time. I can't plan ahead any more on when I will be outside. If I see a opportunity I dive out there for as long I can get away with it. Sometimes its 5-10 min and i get called back in and other times its 2-3 hours.

Though some horse harding last night I ended up with a 77 Chevy truck with a roudy 450ish HP 406. Maybe I should drop that in the wagon. How before the hornets would start buzzing this thread if I did that HAHA.

Not really thinking about doing that but I did find a good deal on a 350 block here local. I don't think I am going to use the 455 on this one. I already found my self thinking well I could buy a performer intake and get rid of the EGR, and since I need manifolds anyway I could just put a set of headers and I bet I could find a cheap cam ect ect. I have to nip that thought process in the bud now and put it back 100% stock with a 350 2brl or things are going to get out of hand.

Richard your smart for keeping things to a minimum. The market is tough right now, but I think you will get it sold.

I never bought is one to sell. I always go in to a deal different if the intention is to sell. This one I bought to keep so since I am selling it now I need to keep things in check over what I want to do.

I got my threads confused, LOL!!! Theres also a parts car I listed with a 350 core from c/l.

http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13227632674161

I also suggested possibly a shortblock from city motor supply

I am moving this to the build section. I am home alone with the twins while mama is out Chirstmas shopping so I thought I would give a little update. As you can see this is hard work.

72wagon062.jpg?t=1323545684

Well here is the direction this build is going to go. I am going to get the car daily driveble / road worthy with little to no cosmetic repairs. I hope to still sell it to help climb out of my 19K hole in doc / hospital bills but in the mean time I will enjoy driving it.

For the last few weeks I have been on the hunt for the right replacement motor for the broken 350. I decided against the 455 to keep the cost down and and keep things simple. I put the 455 on CL local so maybe it will help pay for other things needed.

About a week ago I found what was susposed be a good motor for a great deal but there was a catch. Its was 3+ hours from here near in nother eastern OK and the guy had not clue if it really has a 72 motor and heads. He had jerked it out of a 72 Cutlass to put in a 454 Chevy. I guess he was used to too many jerk offs so I had a hard time getting him to get me the numbers off the block and heads. After a week of me pestering him he finally realized I was serious and got me the numbers. Its a 72 Block with 7a heads so a deal was struck over the phone and I left at 5:30 after work Friday to head up there.

Both google maps and My GPS said to turn off on to OK63 about 20 miles before Macalister OK. I will never forget OK63 for the rest of my life. Think about a 25 mile narrow barlely paved road with 25 MPH curves and single lane narrow bridges every few hundred yards in pitch dark and you get the idea. At one point there was a nice stretch of straight road. I am cruising along about 55mph and crest a hill. The other side of the hill was about a 45 degree plain. If you are picturing a 7000lb 3/4 ton impersonating the General Lee right now you have the idea.

After I stopped and made sure my drawers were clean I continued for the last 5-6 miles a 35 mph or less. I got there and told him my experience and he knew the road and said many a farmer has lost a tractor off a trailer hitting that hill too fast. He said there have been lots of bad accidents at night on that road and showed me a differerent way back. I was glad because I did not want all the twists and turns with an engine in the back.

I am about 1/2 way back and needed to pee pretty bad so I stopped at the only place around. It was a casio on 69. I am not much of a gambler but I thought what the heck and sat down at a slot machine. I had $50 in my pocket. I said I was going to play with $40 and walk away. I was playing $2 per spin and went through the $40 without winning a dime. I told myself well you just blew $40 $10 more is not going to kill you. I was down to $6 and hit the button. The machine start ringing and lighting up It paid me almost as much I just spent on the motor.

I got home tired as hell about 2am but was grinning ear to ear about what had happened.

Here it is. Even has pretty nice chrome valve covers I can sell and make a few more bucks back.

So far so good. This is what all the plugs look like and I pulled a valve cover. Nice and clean with no sludge.

Richard, I think you found yourself a nice engine there and sounds like you got a deal on it in the long run. Your determination paid off at the Casino. BTW, been by there many times when I used to live in K.C. and would drive down here to visit family in DFW area.

Glad you had a safe trip, even though it had some white knuckle moments! Picture look good, hopefully you've got a good runner. If the economy stays bad long enough maybe you'll end up keeping the wagon As long as you've got a way to pay the bills that would be a much more fun family car than any mini-van! John

I know that this is an old thread and I'm new here, but you've left us in suspense for about 6 months. What is "The Rest of the Story"? Did ya install the engine? Did it work well? Are you driving the wagon? Did ya sell it? Enquiring minds want to know!!!!

No progress at all. Motor is still on the stand. I've been trying to do a little buying and selling to make some extra money so what little spare time I have is going to that.
