My Junkyard Saved 65 442
Thanks guys, it has been alot of fun so far. Next is slap on a set of front discs off a 72 Monte I parted a while back, get the 8.5 3.73 posi I have laying around or maybe that 3.91 O posi I keep tripping over that came out of a 66 GTO I just parted due to extreme rust.
then wait for the interior to show up.

Update as my *** HURTS!!!
Finally gave up on fellow Olds guys that want to die with their parts, went $1385 in the hole for a set of rechromed off the shelf guaranteed to be ghetto fabulous bumpers. These things better give me a kiss when I put them on.
A guy named Jim hooked me up with a fair price on some above driver quality tail light housings and the left fender trim. Still waiting on Fusicks on my interior upholstery, only been month amd a half. One final order for some misc stuff so I can park it until the Africa hot weather leaves. Thinking on dropping some AC on the car. But that means redoing lots of stuff.
Brake lines, fuel lines and those foolish sadistic little green clips are on. Building the original 4-Jet today of my anode kit from Eastwood shows. Gots to be pretty even though that larger than life air cleaner hides my hard work.
the only thing I am truly missing is a circuit board for the speedo housing. NOT going to put a want ad up here as I am 0 for 6 on needing parts here. I did score the fenders and hood on UHC, so there are some not so stingy on helping a brother out. what is it, my Chevelles? My Montes? Is there something stuck in my teeth? lol.

Hey Andy,
What was that silver stuff you put under your carpet, i'm almost done patching a couple dings in the floor and need some advice of what to insulate the floor boards with under the new carpet?
Thanks,
Tony

Yup, trunk goes on last. I am having TigVision Welding do it just up the road. The trunk was mint like the rest of the car but it looked like someone had put a battery back there at one point rotting the center section. I got a 3 piece kit off eBay for $130 shipped.
Tony, it is FattMatt I get off eBay. For $100 you get enough to do a little more than two cars doing just the floor. It really cuts down on road noise and heat from the pipes. I skip all the factory deadener and just use this.

I hope they are super carefull.
Just a quick update. did the seats a couple of weeks ago and they came out awesome. Got a set of rechromed bumpers that went on the day they showed up. Right now I an down to wiring the dash. I scored a cluster off eBay fpr $10 that had a prefect board on it.

Got the dash kinda looking like a dash. Lots of wiring and finding out what goes where, but the AM radio works if you like pirate spanish stations and talk radio.
Got a few bites on the poverty caps but am busy as helll at the shop. Wont be seeing you on UHC.com anymore. Jasen banned me for not liking me. But I like me, and that is all that matters. And Bro doesn't post here.
Got my Elky ready for cruising so I got nothing but time for the 65 now. Cannot wait to stripe the parking lot. Did a bad thing though. The Centerlines wont clear the quarters so I put a set of 87 Monte SS rims on it. Grabbed a set of repop centers and then put a set of Olds Rocket stickers on them. Olds tuff with chevy stuff.
UHC.com was fun while it lasted, all 5 minutes of it. Get over yourself.

Grandpa, I'll say again, what a great buy, what a great save, and in only 7 1/2 months!!!!!!!!!! Took me 4 1/2 years...........but of course, I don't have that lift! LOL! Really looking good. One of these days, I'm gonna stumble on something like that, I hope.
And I figured out how to build a correct looking floor shifter using a 66 GTO shifter and a 68 Mustang T handle. I have a mint 65 console and even though it is not original to the car, it looks great in there. And I switched it to cable shift as opposed to linkage.
And just a message to the mods. I am a very reactionary person. I plan to keep my build here and no where else.
Stan, thanks for the kudos. I have been collecting old service manuals for years. Flea markets, book fairs, they used to come up all the time. I remember when I was 20 years old I completely rewired my 69 Chrger RT 440 car with a factory manual i bought at a garage sale for $1. These things are becoming priceless. Hang on to them and pass them on to your kids.
Scored an extremely nice air cleaner from Ebay so I am skipping the wiring for now just to tighten the engine up. Carb came out great and I finally found the rest of the linkage in the PILE O PARTS. I got the engine pre lubed so all that needs to be done is toss the distributor in, put on the fuel line on, and put on my way overpriced set of repop ignition wires on. Power steering hasnt leaked a drop in two months so if all goes well and it charges I should have it running today.
And I got my poverty caps on the way. Rims are ready from powdercoating so I will be putting on the seventh set of rims and tires. Settled on R code stocks with redlines and poverty caps. Loved the look of the Centerlines, but the rear bacspacing was around 3 inches too much.

It seems I am the biggest slacker, ever. Haven't touched the car past washing it in the last few months. But it is Florida racing season. Pulled out my Malibu, swapped out the 496 for a much hotter 505 and was rewarded with a 9.80@141 on Drag radials.
But I did get my R wheels powdercoated and my povery caps came back from polishing. They came out sweet. Not a dent in them. I have a track rental next weekend and after that, I need to pull the engine back out to see why the oil pump locked up, get the Pertronix in, and get the mechanicals done. Just tired of pushing the damn thing when I need the lift.

And it is back burned, again. Got caught up in a single LQ9 Turbo 78 Malibu that I should get done by the end of the mont for some shakedaown passes. LS7 cam, Ls6 lifters, and a 96MM Turbonetics turbo on E85. Should be a 9.0 car when finished.
Damn. Some people just don't know what they have. I stumbled upon a 1964 Corvair at the junkyard once, in surprisingly nice shape for a Florida car (no rust, newer parts, etc.). It looked like a failed project, but could've been resurrected as a racecar.
It was sad.
So sad.
