I got a 350 rocket out of a 76 cutlass its carbarated and I'm trying to put it in a 1985 442 its fuel injected and I'm wondering if I need to switch the computer and ECU

I will give my opinion, but it is just that. I don't have any technical experience with what you are trying to do. The engine blocks are the same size so all you should have to do to make the swap is change the intake and exhaust manifolds from the 307 to the 350. The fuel injection system is controlled by the computer but it is adjusted by input from the oxygen sensor(s) in the exhaust. It "should" adjust the fuel rich enough to compensate for the larger displacement but you may need to get different injectors. Someone that knows for sure should correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think the 307 manifold will match the ports on the 350 head.
Whether the fuel system will fit on a '76 manifold is beyond my knowledge I'm afraid.

Roger.

i don't believe your 85 442 is f.i. it would have a cc quadrajet carb.i would leave the 76 carb and distributor in your engine.the exhaust should line up with the 76 manifolds.you could use the 85 carb and distributor but you would need to find a spot for coolant temp sensor and o2 sensor.jc

To clarify, the 1980s 307 motors use a computer controlled Quadrajet carb. The CCC system has very limited capability. It primarily controls distributor timing and mixture on the primary side of the carb only. The secondaries are mechanically controlled, just like every other Qjet. The computer also controls the emissions equipment (EGR, evap vent valve, choke vacuum break) and the transmission converter lockup. You can transfer these parts to the 350, but most people just delete the CCC system.

It's also worth asking if he's sure it's an 85 442 and not like a traverse mounted 90s quad 4 or something
