Hey Retro i used 36 grit on a d/a to strip the whole thing. The hood had to be opened up,raised and re fiber-glassed. It sagged about a 1/2 inch on the driver side. We used a black sealer primer before the body work was done and then a high build primer to get where we are now.

Great thread... Your C/S with the exception of the white stripes on the hood...is identical to my first car. Ahhh...Memorys. I am in the process of another 72 as we speak... love these cars. Keep up the good work ...can't wait to see the finished product.

That looks friggin incredible!! BTW something wierd about those pics, some come through full size and some are small. Are you posting them all the same format?

Can't wait to see it! BTW if you end up with a lot of surplus fasteners, I'm sure you could post them for sale on this site + you will be able to give firsthand insight into how well they worked or needed to be adjusted?

There's another thread going on 442 repop grills from Fusicks dealing with poor fitment. I have a set too, but am waiting for warmer weather to take off my OEM stoneshield and see if they fit in there any better than the repop stoneshield. Hate working on plastic parts in cold weather.
Pls let us know how you solved you issues. They look like they lined up really nice.

Got some more done yesterday, front done except the bumper. Some side molding, door handle, mirror. Allan had to remove tabs all the way down to the clips, drilled out the mounting tabs on the sides of the grills and used the hole in the center of the brackets, also had to grind and drilled some holes on the stone shield to accomadate the tabs on the grill trim. Not absolutely perfect but very good !!

EDIT: I got to thinking about what you said about it being lucerne blue. Looked up the color charts for Olds and Lucerne Mist (code D) looks like an exact match for your car. Only thing is, Lucerne Mist is a 1966 color.\
The only other colors that might be close are Nordic Blue - which is code 24. When I was looking at your avatar pic compared to the new paint, they are not even close. Which one were you trying to get? FWIW I think your car looks amazing. The finish (which I know you worked your butt off on) and the gaps look perfect. When it's finished I'd be afraid to touch it....

Hey Allan the paint supplier mixed it to code 26 ?? What ever it is im very happy with it ! And as far as not wanting to touch it ?? I dont But promised my Friends if we went through the trouble of painting it I WOULD DRIVE IT !!! lol so i have to keep my promise it will be driven alot this summer ! The paint matches the original trunk hinge color to a tee. The avatar pic was extremely faded and checked, cant wait to get it together and cruise this summer.
