Nice looking belt tags Ray. How do you plan to get them printed onto the cloth that gets stitched to the belt?

 

I am not sure what i am doing with my belts yet. I am trying to locate them to see what condition they are in. If I remember right mine are in nice condition but need a good cleaning. Speaking of that.... What is the best way to clean seat belts?

 

I have to look into finding the right fabric there are some that are available it's called printable fabric, I just finish replacing all the webbing on my belts and reconditioning the buckles and tongues. could not find a shop in my area to do it so I ordered the webbing with seatbelts plus got some tex 93 thread on e-bay used my wife machine with a #18 needle and they came out great.

 

I clean mine with super clean (Wal-Mart)and it took 90% of the stains off but there were still some spots that nothing would remove but my belts are gold in color and any spots show up, a darker color would clean up a lot better. so I replace the webbing and they look great

 

I see a whole new career opening up here.


I haven't explored this but I wonder if the iron-on type fabric is printable. I haven't looked at it in years but perhaps some of it is the right weight, surface finish, plus is more dimensionally stable than typical fabric? I don't propose you actually iron it on, of course.

 

Bolts look great Eric. I am cleaning my seat belts now. Got them soaking in some detergent. I sprayed them of with degreaser first. Mine are black and a couple look a little faded. I am thinking of trying to dye them. Has anyone tried that?

I been told that dye doesn't take to nylon but guess u could try new, webbing is 15.00 a yard

 

I spray them with a degreaser, let sit for a while, soak in hot water and then use oxi-clean and a whitewall brush. They usually come pretty clean. I also dyed a set of red ones for my 70 cadillac and they came out a little flatter than the sheen they originally came with.

just looked at snakes web. site he what's 899.00 for a show quality set for a coupe, I found me some very nice used buckles and tongue buffed them out replaced the webbing and tags and have about 350.00 in them

 

I got my radio and 8 track back today. The original radio to this car was an AM 8 track. The AM radio had a mouse nest on top of it and was mostly ruined. I have decided to upgrade to an AM/FM mono but i am going to keep the original AM. I sent them to Fred's Classic Auto Radios & Clocks. Both of these were a little better than average looking but the radio did not work and the 8 track was extremely dirty inside and other problems. Now they look new and should work like new. It was $162.50 for the radio and 281.60 for the 8 track.

 

Very cool Eric. How are your speakers? Did you see the thread about reconing vs. replacing?

 

I missed that thread but i just sent my front and back speaker in to be rebuilt by a guy out west. Do you have a link to the thread? The back speaker is very hard to find.

Nothing rechromed. Just cleaned detailed and serviced.


I am shooting for spring of 2015 but it is looking more and more like it will be late summer 2015. Other people doing work can't keep up with me. I started real good but waiting on other people are killing my time. The engine should have been done last fall but the pistons were back ordered till My machine shop could not get me in till fall. The bolts were 4 months longer than I thought they would be. The body guy is at least a month behind.... you know the story.

 

You got me thinking so I just called the body guy. He said to bring it in 3 weeks and he will have it for 5 months. He builds houses for a living and about to start on his last house before he retires to doing cars full time. This will put it at August when I get it back the first time and I will be working on it for several months and then take it back to him for final paint before I finish the car for another couple months. Looking more like 2016...

 

yes I know what u mean I couldn't believe how fast u were going with your car because we started on our cars about the same time. every time I looked at your post u had something new and now I looks like It slowed down. all we can do is what we have control of. we all have to wait for those that do good work, that's why they are busy. just keep up the good workmanship.

I could get you a Freddy Fender tape for the fancy 8-track player. Mr. Fender was a client of my recording studio (long before my time), He recorded Wasted Days & Wasted Nights and Before the Next Teardrop Falls at SugarHill Studios back in the 70s. I think there are some old 8-tracks in the warehouse. Are you interested?

Eric you just got me inspired to get my CO reading butt to work. Going out to garage right now to get started on more bolts - and will be blasting Beach Boys greatest hits Vol. 1 & Pet Sounds (in mono of course!!)

 

Glad I could help. When I sent my bolts to Sparky's, He ask that i not clean them. He wanted to clean them for some reason.

 

once I got my tape played up and working cleaning the head replacing the belt and giving it a good internal cleaning and lubing I hooked it up on my golf cart and road around the neighbor hood playing some Motown and country to the neighbors. my youngest son said the sound was nostalgic. boy did slipping the tape in bring back old memories

 

I started working on the marker lights. I could not get them clean on the inside so i heated them up and got the glue to soften. I got the lenses out and now they cleaned up real good. I picked up a set of backs reproduction but i think I will use my originals. In comparing the OEM to repop, They did a real nice job on the reproductions. If I didn't have a nice set of originals I sure wouldn't buy NOS for as nice as the repops are. I do like the original lenses a little better but it is splitting hairs on the difference. I guess the perfect thing would be to use original lenses in the repop housings....

 

I just sent the heat shroud and some other small parts to be coated to Sparky's. He has my carburetor apart now and i hope he can squeeze these parts in at the same time??? As soon as it is warmer out i will finish the engine and get it to the dyno. Shooting for April or May for the Dyno.

 

Eric, do the repop lenses have the 'Guidex' script on them?

 

Yes but they are at about a 45 degree angle compared to the original 15ish degree angle. Also, the DOT information at the bottom is a little off center compared to the original. Only some goofball like me is even going to care about that. The shade of the lense is very slightly off. You would also not notice this on the car and it may be because the originals faded just a little over the years.

 

I got the heater control valve done and rebuilt the door hinges. I really wanted to find a set of nice original hinges that did not need rebuilt but out of all my parts I don't have any. I got the inline tube rebuild kits. They are a very nice kit and i like them but it will be obvious they are not original when the car is done.

I don't see any reproduction of the 70 style heater control valves. Do any of you know if they are being reproduced? This one works good but i was just wondering.

 

Just got my speakers back. I had got an NOS one but decided to have mine rebuilt.

 

I am just wondering aimlessly on what I work on right now. If I have a little time I just go to the basement and start working on the first thing I see. Tonight was the fan speed switch. It tested good on all the speeds but it was very hard to move to each position. I took it apart and found the little detents that stop it in each position were gummed up. I cleaned it all out and also wire wheeled all the contacts with a Dremel tool. I sanded the copper plate with 1000 sandpaper. Used just a little white grease on the detents and super lube on the contacts. Now it moves and works like a new one.

 

Eric, what does an OE heater valve gave for markings on it? The one that came off the blue car is marked "Dole Valve Co."along with a bunch of other stuff.

 

Mine has COLS.O.USA on the bottom of the gold side and TYPE H25 on the top side. In the center it has RNCO. Part number 399679 on the back side. Here is a link to one i found like mine.

This one is all gold and mine only had the cap on the vacuum side gold and the rest zinc.

I was getting insurance tonight for this car and looking through the documents. In 1971 the original owner had 30,958 miles on it in the first year he owned it. The next milage record I have is in 1981 with 99,516 miles and the next is 2012 with 99,516 miles. It got alot of miles in a short time and nothing from 1981 till I get it done in the next year or two.
