65’ 442 400 swap

Hey guys I have a 1965 442 4 speed my dad bought and gave to me when he bought it, it came with a 69’ 350 rocket in it and the original 400 block which he had machined and boarded .40 over and built I have a good amount of automotive knowledge and experience but this will be my first swap and don’t know where to start pulling the 350 and putting the 400 in any information will help thanks.

Your car came with a 400 from the factory. This is a bolt-in. Use the motor mounts that match your frame pads (Anchor 2261 assuming the OEM pads). You'll need BBO exhaust manifolds. Depending on which accessory brackets and pulleys are on the 350 now, they should all swap over as a matched set. There are some minor adjustments to account for the taller deck height of the BBO, but the factory brackets have two sets of holes for this, again depending on which brackets you have.

"Swap" is something LS guys do.

What transmission is in the car currently? If you put an E block 400 bored 40 over in it that has a healthy cam, you should know what transmission is in there and this is a good chance to think about options and rebuilds.

If you take some pictures it might help.

If the later 350 retained any of the original 400’s brackets it would help look more original.
Also, the 400 (in 965)came with a 5.1” length water pump. (Measured from base to fan mounting surface)
This length will help with your pulley arrangement.

Koda, I’d assume it is a B block if original.

Also note that the bolt pattern on the crankshaft rear flange is different between the 1967-older engines and the 1968-newer engines. Check to see if the flywheel used on the 350 (assuming the 4 speed is still in the car) is drilled for both bolt patterns.

If original, can we not assume it's either a wide or close-ratio Muncie and therefore able to cope with nearly anything a 1965 B-block might throw at it?

To OP: Muncie? Just look for the little hump on top of the inspection cover.
