It is hard to see it in some light and other light it pops right out at you. I had the flash on and it really made it stand out. Kolor Korect says this is correct but it sure don't look like my wife's car. This is 60 year newer paint though. This is also Base clear instead of lacquer
Car looks great Eric. Amazes me how you find parts never mind NOS parts for that.
Thanks. The difficulty of finding parts actually makes it more fun for me. I have learned so many things with this car simply because some things are not available. I have figured out how to source things, make things, and rebuild parts that were not made to be rebuildable. As far as the NOS stuff, I almost feel guilty using them, lol. They were stored and survived all these years unused and here I am using piles of them. I have lots of NOS stuff for the front of the car I will be using.

Why feel guilty ? Someone stored those parts all these 50 some years in the hope that someone COULD use them .

I and some of my car buds feel that the fun in restoring these cars are in the chase of the car, the parts, the hassle of finding body guys etc. When it's all done and completed,it's shown a time or two the ride is over with. The long term ownership is not something that we are driven by. I know others may feel differently but that's how I feel.

I agree with that for sure. That said, I thought the W-30 was the last car I would ever restore. Now I am almost sure this is the last car I restore. At least to this level. This car is not the same quality of restoration the W-30 was but still really nice. I think in the future I will get cars and just make them better and not do restorations.

I've heard this from a few guys. Keeps one busy thats for sure
Your car is really looking great Eric!! I wouldn't feel guilty about using all those NOS parts! Those people were storing them all these years just for you! I'm in the same boat as 66-3X2 442, I enjoy the "chase" of finding the car, bringing it back to hopefully better than new condition but when it's done ( are they ever really done???) I get antsy for something new to play with!!! I retire in a year & half & I'm still planning on doing a proper frame-off on my '68 but we'll see when the time comes!

Thanks,
My next project is not going to be Oldsmobile. I plan to do a concourse restoration on a 1974 Honda ATC 70. Been collecting NOS parts since the mid 90's for it. Compared to cars restoration, that one will not take long.
Worked on a little of everything today. Installed the plug wires and cap first, then pulled the side trim back off and polished on the aluminum inserts more. I simply could not get them to look as good as I wanted to so I put a really thin coat of aluminum spray paint on them. I sure didn't want to but I really had no choice. Maybe I should have used the reproductions but this is how it is going to be now. It looks MUCH better. Re-installed the side trim and then started picking the rocks out of the original tire. That thing was FULL of little rocks. I never want to do that again.
I need to hook up the fuel lines and it will be ready to fire up.
Been there done that on the tire and the rocks! It’s rewarding when it’s over! And you’ll go back and look at it tomorrow and notice you missed a few rocks.
Eric, Where did you get the battery ground strap or is it original to the car???
It is NOS. It was in Hawaii actually. It is the correct part number for the 61-63 f-85 but it is slightly wider than the ones that come on the car from Oldsmobile.
I am about ready to fire it up so had to put some of the front together so I can put the radiator in it. Not sure wat the 418 is but it was on there so I put it back where it was.
Finished some loose ends up that was needing done. Yesterday I installed the rear bumper guards. I had forgot to install the antenna lead before installing the glove box and kick panel a while back so took those out and got the antenna done. Then I installed the manual choke cable. Also ran positive and negative wires for the temp gauge. It will have a 3 wire plug and velcro holding it on under the dash so that I can remover it really simple if I take it to a show that I want it to look factory. I just like having a temperature gauge on these Jetfire cars
I hooked up the battery again after that to test more things. The backup lights were not working. I double checked my wiring and all was hooked up correct so I pulled the bulbs and I had voltage at the lights like I should. These NOS backup light assemblies had bulbs in them and both tested good. I decided to use a brass wire wheel on the dremel and clean the base of the bulbs and the sockets and then they worked great. Must have been some tarnish from decades of sitting but they looked ok.
Didn't do much the past two days. I decided to work on the headlight assemblies. These are not quite to the standard I would like but how they are going to be. I have never liked doing these. I will not install them till after I get the engine fired up. As soon as I have the right weather I will get it running and get the cam broke in.
Now that the engine is running I decided to start working on the front of the car. I have NOS emblems but these originals cleaned up so nice I can hardly tell a difference between these and the NOS ones. I will just keep the NOS ones in the box. You never know, maybe I will find another one to restore and need them for that car. I installed the headlight assemblies and tested them, They work just like they should.
Sounds great, Eric. Is the red, yellow, and orange on the emblem painted?
It is a clear plastic insert and has ridges on the back. Each ridge is a different color paint and after that the entire back side is painted white. This way the clear plastic protects the paint. The 63 assembly manual has the colors for each ridge but I have never had to repaint them.
This thing was a pain in the butt to get on. It is not the fender from this car so required a little more force here and there. Also had to bend the upper mounting bracket a little
BFH and a block of wood is the way the factory would adjust these. If you want to sell the new emblems I'll still take them. I have a empty spot in the display cabinet.
What a cool **** build. I love builds out of the norm. It's called passion and love for a car. Don't give a poop about resale. Build what works for you! My kinda people.
People spend 100k plus for a car that really they don't give a crap about. Nothing but cash in cash out. It will never get driven. Touch the rear barrels?? Why I would never...It will never be loved.
Your car? All love. AND You will actually drive and love it. HUGE HUGE props to you and this build. 🍻

Thank you. One place will be the Smoky Mountains that we are going to drive it. We took the last car I restored down there to drive around. So much fun! I will trailer it the 7 hours to get there but will drive it while we are there. We drove the last car nearly 300 miles while we were down there.

Hard to let go of them. I feel they are one of the coolest emblems for any car ever. I am trying to get another parts car that has a set that look fairly nice. Been trying to buy it for a couple years. If I get it I may sell those.
