About ready for its first show in Auburn Indiana for the AACA national Spring show July 3rd. It is nowhere near a 1000 point car but that was not the goal of this restoration. It is a little better than my original vision for the car but has plenty of flaws for the judges to find. It will be driven very little this year, maybe another 100 miles, but after the three big shows it will be driven much more next year. These pictures are why I am not always a fan of clear coat. In some kinds of light it looks like plastic. Still, I am very happy with how the car turned out.

Congratulations to Eric on two awards that he won at the OCA nationals. He won Best of Class in 1961 to 1965 non-performance and Best of Class for the entire show for post war car. Eric, has restored two cars including his beautiful Jet-Fire and each car turned out impeccable. His other restoration is also detailed here on Classic Oldsmobile. Again, a big congratulations!
Rocketguy, I think I will remember you now. Just if I can remember you first name, lol. Pictures, names, and user names are confusing for a guy like me
Eric, great hanging out with you in Nashville this week. My Dad and I appreciated the time you took to walk us through your amazing restoration. Congrats on the BOC and Best Post War and very well deserved. I look forward to seeing you recreate that picture from 1962 this fall in Chicago.

I don't know but it can't be over 992 because of the radials alone. I am sure they found more than that, Like the huge crack in the steering wheel. I am thinking about going ahead and fixing that. I am just worried I will make it look worse than it is now.
At least you remembered Rocketguy It's Richard. And speaking of pics, please post one of you in those fancy shorts

lol, My wife buys my cloths because I would just grab my work uniforms and wear those if she didn't. I had nearly as many comments on the shorts that day as I did the car.
jensenracing77 thanks for showing me a few of the features of your JetFire Tuesday evening after you backed the car into the parking space at the hotel. I was that guy with white hair; that is sure to jog your memory.
I fell head over heels for your car and can understand why you are so enamored with it too; this car deserves every award they hit you with.
Congrats Eric !!
Enjoyed the video's, your car is outstanding !!! such dedication, as much as I love classic automobiles I don't believe I could ever be that devoted or patient !! Nice work !!
Well deserved accolades. I don’t have the fortitude to go to that level… my jalopies are my daily drivers, so it’s tough to have them down for that long. But man, the dedication here is admirable.
Some more rework. I had some bad clutch chatter and took the pressure plate, disc and flywheel to a local place that rebuilds clutches. I did not know this place was near me and rebuilt clutches so I sent these off to be rebuilt when I restored the car. They inspected all of it and said there was nothing wrong with any of it and was built proper. They said what I was feeling was somewhat normal for this old disc setup. The sold me a new disc and cut the clutch chatter way down and is something I can live with now.
I had a custom control shaft made for the shifter when I restored it and decided that we would do more custom parts for it to tighten the shifter even more. Now the shifter is superior to what it would be when it was new. I have been so tempted to put a Hurst shifter in it but now this one works so nice there is no need to.
I also had the steering aligned again by another shop. They also figured out that some of my problem was that the steering box was adjusted to tight. They got the alignment spot on and the box adjusted correct.
I am so happy with this car now. All these things were going to be put off till Spring but something come up and needed to be done now. A little teaser, Something really cool in store for this car soon. I "think" in November but could be later. Just had to get it ready now. Stay tuned!
Next is to take it to the paint guy. He is going to do a little buffing and polishing on the roof and a couple areas.
SUPER EXCITED!!!!!! I finely got the last two correct valve stem caps for the Jetfire! I had 3 so one would have been ok since you can't see the one on the spare tire but now I have all 5!

Those were once a very common item, but now are hard to find.
