He took out the dings and imperfections and polished them for $80. I'll let you know the total when I get the shipping costs. I guess USPS is OK? How much insurance do you want?
To be honest, I am not to worried about insurance. I have learned that there are so many hoops to jump through to collect that it is nearly impossible to do.
Eric, I honestly feel like you're being a jerk by not showing us pics with the caps and rings on! (only kidding)
Such a great job on this resto, and what a unique car. Will you drive this one at all, or is it going to be a trailered show car for a while?
lol, I was waiting till after the steering alignment to put them on. I just got it aligned today and now it is at the exhaust shop. I will have pictures of it soon.
As for trailering it, It will be both actually. I plan to drive it but I will trailer it to the far away shows. I will trailer it to the Nationals and MCACN. We also plan to trailer it to the Smoky Mountains in 2022 and drive it around down there. I just trailered it to the alignment shop because they were over 20 miles away and the steering was so far off that I was not going to drive it.

I understand. One less time that the caps and rings will have to be put on / taken off, less chance of scuffing the paint on the rims. I thought I had remembered you saying that your intentions were to drive it, but wasn't sure if that had changed with how the car has turned out and the level of resto you went to. Glad to hear you will drive it!

Congratulations !
You reached the finish line .
The hubcaps were always the last part of the car to be installed when they were new .
They came wrapped in paper in the trunk . And the dealership would install them during new car prep .
Thanks guys, I do still have some things to do and rework. I am going to take this weekend off from it I think. I need to pull the hood back off and do some tuning and lots of little things. Not actually done yet but close. I am SO READY for a little time off
As others have said, beautiful piece of work my friend. Can't wait to see it in person.
Very appropriate to have a barn in the background since it was a "Barn Find" ...well, technically a "garage" find...

Got them today and they look amazing! Thank you for getting these done for me. They look so much better than the set I have on there now.
You're welcome. The guy is amazing on stainless. Are you going to change them out?
Yes, the set on my car now will go on Melissa's Jetfire. The ones on her car are trashed. Her car is aged to the point it really need restored. Just hard for me to do to an original paint car. I suspect I will just pull it apart and detail what is there and put it back together. At the moment, I just want to get my car done and not work on anything for a while, lol
I should have listened to you! I did not change the throwout bearing and now I have to pull the transmission and chance it, lol. That bearing was smooth as could be, never had a problem and only had 44K miles. Yesterday I drove it 6 miles testing some things and all was good and parked it. I later decided to put it on the lift and pulled out to the driveway and still no problem, out of the blue started clicking and was getting louder by the second. I let out on the clutch while in neutral and the clicking went away. Not hard to change really but I should have listened. Now to find a good bearing made in USA.
I did not use exhaust manifold gaskets on this engine and 3 of the ports are slightly leaking. Very minor and not making noise, just a really small amount of soot forming. Looks like I need to add gaskets now. I may pull the manifolds and try copper spry first. If that don't work I will use gaskets. A little rework but not really anything difficult yet.
That is a very unique car and you've done a great job with it. This is off the subject but you must have one helluva grass mowing operation in warm weather! Your land looks beautiful but that's a ton of open space that needs to be taken care of in the summer. Hope you have a tractor with a deck!

Thanks, I use this 184 to cut it and take right at 2 hours if I hurry. These are a little under powered for their size but it gets the job done. I hope to pull this tractor apart next winter and redo some of it and repaint it. It has been very good to me and nearly no issues in the 15 years I have used it.
Doing a little rework this morning while waiting for the clutch release bearing to come. I fount that ALL replacement clutch release bearings are now made in China. joesw31 hooked me up with an older stock one made in USA.
I was having trouble with the starter engaging every time before I took the car apart. It would spin every time but not engage. I rebuilt the starter and now does the exact same thing. I used a jumper to test it at the starter and works 100% of the time there. The wire diagram shows that this wire come direct from the ignition switch. I did not replace that switch but I have an NOS one.
I thought a valve cover was leaking but turns out that the oil return from the turbo had a little leak. I have that fixed now.
I had 3 ports between the exhaust manifold and heads leaking just a really small amount of black soot. I decided to pull them loose and add gaskets. I didn't want to use gaskets and could have likely sealed them with a little copper spray but without taking the manifolds all the way out, this was not going to be easy. So gaskets it is....
Not to much left to do. Finish putting the transmission back in, take it back to the alignment shop, and the ignition switch. And lots of cleaning from assembly.

Bad Bendix?????
All I did was to chuck it up and use emery cloth on it. I didn't cut it. For as bad as the brushes were, it was actually really good. The car only had 44K mils but sure had lots of wear on the brushes. The bushings were really good so I did not replace them.
Emery conducts electricity. I did the window motors in my Starfire and not long after they gave me problems due to Emery cloth

With it working every time with a jumper I feel sure it is the ignition switch. I have an NOS one so I will swap that out next.
I got the clutch release bearing installed and a couple minor oil leaks fixed. Also added just a really small amount of red RTV to a couple of the exhaust connections. Took it out for 30 miles and all went great! I am nearly finished with it. I still can't boost with it yet, waiting on a couple parts still. A couple more weeks and I hope to call it done. The completion has snuck up on me. I feel like I should not be this close to done.
I installed the fluid tank float and pressure tested the fluid injection and no leaks! Also tested the pressure relief valve that relieves tank pressure when the engine is turned off and it also works perfect. Sure happy about all that! I will take it for a drive a little later and see how it boosts. I have just a couple little details to do under the hood and it will be finished under there. That is as long as the turbo works proper but it should. The injection was the only thing I was worried about.
That is a real sweet car you have Eric. I’d like to see it in person some day. I just looked it up, you are about hrs from my parents in Iowa and about two hours from a job site I work every now and then in fair oaks.

Congrats Eric!! Saw your post on fakebook yesterday. Beautiful car!!! The nicest Jetfire on the planet no doubt!!! I noticed your fan guard has a small hole for a screw by the upper hose. Does the Jetfire use an upper hose retainer clamp like the later cutlass/442s do???

Yes, I lost it and a rubber overflow hose for the fluid tank during the restoration. I just bead blasted another one yesterday and still have to paint it. I hope the hose shows up soon but I may have to come up with something different for it. I have turned this place up side down looking for them and just can't figure out what happened to them.
I always look at the updates but forgot to comment on this earlier - fabulous work, as always!! Really love all the details and the uniqueness of the car.
I finely got it back to the alignment shop. It does steer better but it is still not as nice steering as Melissa's car. Also, the steering wheel is not centered. I am going to take it to a different shop in Plainfield. This shop prides itself in custom builds and vintage vehicles so hopefully they can get it better still. It is very close to finished but I can't put the splash shields and a couple things on till the alignment is right.
I have declared the 62 Jetfire finished. I do have a couple improvements I will do eventually but those will wait till a later time. For now I do not want to even think about working on anything, lol. I just want to enjoy it and drive it this year.
