1981 custom cruiser

I bought this towards the end of summer 2018 for $800. I could not get the diesel to run properly, so Jan. Of 2019 I put the 350 from my old 66 f85 in and had been commuting as well as using it as my work truck. Over the next year I installed a class 3 receiver, lift bags in the rear springs and a 1” rear sway bar, put in new speakers and added the third row seat. January 2020 I put some new white striped tires on and got her all cleaned up to go to a cabin, unfortunately on the return trip I got hit and the passengers side got wiped out. As of today it is in the body shop getting fixed up and I have plans to further restore the vehicle as well as improved ride quality and towing ability.

It’s at the shop now with a new front door, I dropped off a rear door and quarter panel on Friday. When I get it back I will update.

I received a call today, the body work is done on the olds, Probably picking it up Friday.

I have a couple of questions.

1. I want to replace my passenger side inner fender. Wondering if there is any difference between a gas and diesel?

2. I know shorty headers have been discussed a lot on here. Curious if anyone has put the Hedman shorty headers on an 80’s b body?

That's great that they got the body work done. Post pics when you get a chance.

The inner fender from a gas car will fit a diesel car and vice versa. The only difference might be holes in the fender to accommodate the mounting of different items (i.e. charcoal canister, radiator overflow, etc.). I've never used shorty Hedman Hedders before but I have full length ones on my 71. The build quality is good and they weren't too outrageously priced.

I was figuring it would fit but mounts and holes etc may be different. I saw a thread with good pictures of the hedman shorties I want a while ago but I can’t remember if it was a gbody or bbody.

I am wondering how olds did the oil cooler on diesel cars. My oil filter adapter is plugged and there are no lines. I would like to put a factory oil cooling system( or close to it) back in.

Check out this thread. Joe P provides a FSM pic of diesel oil cooler lines.

According to that my trans lines are connected to the oil cooler. I may simply go with aftermarket coolers.

Does anyone know if the th350-c( the one with lock up convertor) will take a shift kit for standard th350, do any upgrade parts for the th350 fit the th350c?

Here are some shift kits that work with the TH350c.

Looking for an nos pass. Side manual(remote cable) mirror, or a nice used one. Body shop cut mine and lost the mirror. Also wondering if anyone knows where to get the Diesel engine color in a rattle can or something very close.

Still need a passengers side view mirror. I finally brought the diesel into my little work shop so I can revisit it. I am planing to pull the heads so I can inspect the gaskets. It’s possible this will turn into a full rebuild.

I pulled the heads and have not seen any obvious signs of a blown head gasket. I did find two failed lifters intake on cyl. 6 and exhaust on cyl. 8. The failed intake lifter on cyl. 6 could be the cause of excessive white smoke( Unburnt fuel caused by no incoming air intake?).
