Thanks for the information scrappie.

This car was purchased new (I was 12) by my dad and was my moms DD for 20+ years, she bought another car to save on gas $$ after my dad passed away. This seal has never been touched, that I remember, anything that has been done on this thing, I watched, helped and did. In its first couple years it went to the dealership 3 maybe 4 times, there really wasn't anything that my dad couldn't do. He came out of an era that worked on your own stuff.

Edit:
The PIM as shown see SYM "D" added 1970 the Clip 3767720 was replaced by clip 480534 (I would say that the assembler could have also used the older clips on some '70 cars)

More regarding the '71 cowl strip. I noticed in the '71 PIM that this particular page (see post #1039) is CANCELED. It states this procedure will be performed by Fisher Body. Perhaps they installed dfferently than the Olds Assembly guys?

Yep, I'd say anything is a possibility. Was thinking that maybe the regular guy performing this task was sick on the day my car ran through that station.

Your cowl seal should have the metal "T" looking clips. https://www.dixierestorationdepot.co...aspx?s=DA10292

Thanks for the compliment. Judging by your build, you are no stranger to the labor required.

There's definitely been some work into my project but, man, I don't know if I would have the patience to do a correct restoration like you and some other members are. Keep up the great work!

Completion

What an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations on your success. I just love your car.
By the way, my 70 that I restored had the same problem with the hood. The rubber at the cowl was just so thick and stiff. It took some time for it to settle down, which made it impossible to adjust the hood properly.

Great work. I know the feeling. I've got 2500 miles on mine now since the restoration and am working to partially restore a 70 Chevelle for a friend of mine. Also picked up a 2009 Corvette this summer and have been having lots of fun with that. I just can't sit still.

That car would have been right at home in Chicago this weekend at MCACN.

Thanks Rick. Just fired up the 542 ci in the 70 Chevelle I'm working on. All the neighbors could feel the rumble of the powerful beast! Gotta love a 700 HP 542 BBC. Can't wait to see your car finished. You're making great progress. Happy Thanksgiving!

Kids and their phones

Had a gentleman over this weekend in regard to some car stuff. His college kid son came along to check out my car and asked if he could do a short little video. I said sure why not. Took him about 3 min and sent me this video a couple hrs later. Pretty talented and all from his phone. It's like a GM car commercial from years ago.

Such a beautiful car! Makes me happy to see the dash colors right also. So many blue interiors have the dash all goofy.
