I've been trying to keep my health issues out of this thread as I'm sure it upsets some readers but since you asked. New location means new Oncologist. He insisted on new scans which showed that my prostate cancer had mutated to a different type of prostate cancer. Who knew there were different types? It is basically related to lung cancer and just as deadly. While most prostate cancers are slow growing and treatable, the new one one I have (called neuroendocrine prostate cancer) is very aggressive and not very treatable. I get me 6th, and last, chemotherapy treatment next week. From there I will get a break from the chemo until the cancer comes back - and it will come back. then they will try something else for awhile until we just run out of effective options. I am basically terminal although there is no way of knowing how long I have. Some guys only live three or four months, others make it to three or more years but ultimately the cancer will win. It is already It is already seven months since the new diagnosis so I guess I am doing better than some guys.
Progress continues but of course it's much slower than I would like. Got the engine back from Mark (cutlassefi). As always, he has done a great job. I highly recommend him. Pics shown are after the engine was painted by the body shop and ready to go back into the car with the trans bolted up.
Finally back in the car.
My car with my best friends car next to it. His is also a 70 442 convertible. Mine will be black with white stripes, top and interior. His is all black and will have gold stripes. His acr was painted by a nearby shop that normally specializes in national award winning Mustangs - usually Boss Mustangs. They had some down time and agreed to paint his car but they refused to paint the stripes. Stripes on Mustangs are usually decals so they were not used to doing them. It is true that the stripes on our cars are very fussy and time consuming but they sure look great when done correctly.
This pic was posted on the forum the other day. I hope that the owner doesn't mind that I have re-posted it here. This is what my car will look like when completed in a couple of months.
Thanks. I wish that was my garage. That's the body shop working on the car. At the moment, I'm in an apartment with no garage at all!
I have no garage right now either so I feel your pain. I am glad you understood that I was joking. Looks like great shop. It has always been said that a clean shop is a quality shop.
How cool is that to have two black 70 442 ragtops next to each other? I love your choice of white on black. I know that I am super super partial but damn Oldsmobile convertibles are sexy. 🔥
The pace seems to be picking up a little bit. I think my body shop guy is getting anxious to get it out of his hair!. Much of the front end work is done now. Inner fenders, core support, headlights, radiator, Fan shroud and all of the engine accessories are finished. Still some connections to be made around the engine but it's getting there.
The big step was the top going on yesterday.
I love seeing my buddies all black car in the background..
Thanks. It is incredible the workmanship and detail you put into your cars ! Keep up the good work.
I will be anxious to see the finished product. Thumbs up
Thanks so much for the kind words. They have truly been a labor of love for me and I have enjoyed every minute of it although the red one did battle me every step of the way. Sadly, this will be the last one.
Progress continues. The underhood work is pretty close to being done. The carb, which pretty much failed on the dyno run despite having been "rebuilt" when I bought it, is still with Ken at Everyday Performance. Really looking forward to getting it back.
My body guy was dissatisfied with the way the hood and the front fenders came out, so he redid them. How amazing is that fir a shop that's 1,000 miles or so away from me! He didn't even mention it until after the work was done. Pretty impressive! Now they just need the cut and buff process.
The finish line is getting closer. The last big area left is the interior which should happen next week. Lot's of punch list items of course but at least I can see the finish line now. It is so cool to see the wheels and tires on it now rather than the junkers that were on it.
Couldn't stand not posting the pic but it's the only one I have right now. Outside in the sun for the first time. A few mechanical details, then the interior can go in and it will be done!
Boy looking just great!! Great build. Thank you so much for not putting W stripes on it. Thanks for sharing all that you have. Hope all is going well for you as well.
Good call. Personally I like the thinner stripes anyway. True W car I like them. I love the white on black. I bet you love just looking at it. You have come so far.
