Decisions like parting with a car you put your heart and soul into don't come easy. This is a car I have had since 2008 and it was a car that was only sold for the second time outside the original family. It was a nashville tn born car from hippodrome olds. The original owner is still alive and is now 84 years old.In the 80's he sold it to a family member and it moved to IL where it was painted once in the wrong shade of green. It was then sold to the original owners son and it went to FL. I visited him and the dad in tn before and after the restoration. I have pictures of him when I took the car down to show him as there was a goodguys event I attended with the car. The car has alot of paperwork: window sticker, broadcast sheets, dealer invoices, shipping orders, gas-oil records from new etc. I added the hood with a beautiful original that had been taken off of a car in 1979. It had original paint and I carefully left all of the original white fiberglass parts underneath white that were there when they bonded the top to the bottom and also duplicated the factory markings.This is the only body panel ever added to the car, The remainder of car is as solid as they com. It was stripped to bare metal and it was then that the brazed holes for the hippodrome emblem were found on the trunk lid. i located an original emblem and had it restored to better than new condition. I left all the lime green paint on the inside of the car as it was perfect and I have all those pictures as well. I can't stress how clean this car was. It has the original block, trans and rearend, The prior owner to me made some internal mods and spent a TON on it. Alot of mondello reciepts. I have the original G heads and the intake along with a 71 code carb that will go with the car. Currently It has aluminum intake and heads and i made the decision to leave it in this configuration and disguise it due to the way it runs. It definately is not your fathers oldsmobile.since completion it has been in and out of a trailer and has maybe 10 miles on it. Part of why I'm considering selling is that I don't drive it. I decided to do a restoration anyone could be proud of.I spent a year on it and nearly 800 hours of time went into it even being a car that didn't require metal work. I take pride in detail and have been around enough olds' to have a fairly good grasp of them. every nut-bolt has either been preserved or restored with the correct finishes. I even went as far as to replate the marker light and tailight housings. I carefully reproduced all of the rear end markings and paint that was found. I have the before photos to prove what was uncovered. All new legendary interior, and top. I was able to re-use the carpet as there is nothing better fitting than original if you can keep it. A rally pack in the dash was added prior to my ownership. The a/c was converted and was working great prior to resto, now it is uncharged as the car is not used other than shows. The 200+ photos depict the work done. I also would consider selling the matching go kart. Its a replica body of the ones used by the shriners years ago. I bought a body only and mated it to a chassis. The car has been showed and won a 1st place at the 2013 olds nationals scoring 989. It took a concours gold at MCACN in 2013 scoring 992. It has recieved a AACA junior first prize in august of 2014 and was awarded recently (3 weeks ago) the AACA 2014 REO Olds award for Best Oldsmobile as selected by the national judges. I flew to philadelphia to accept the award at their annual meeting. Thanks so far guys. Its a tough decision but not a fire sale either. I have a few survivors now and they will be driven with less worry if that makes sense. I'll miss having a piece like this but I have a project car waiting and I plan to do it like this.I will say that the few miles it has been driven since the resto have been fun. She easily goes sideways from about 15 on. I do have a video somewhere...

Another great looking car from the seller. He/they always seem to have good stuff. I absolutely LOVE the color and kudos to "J" for not "upgrading" (really would be downgrading) to add buckets and try to make it something it is not. As I've stated in some other ads about cars I like, my garage is busting at the seams and my wallet is very thin right now or that car would be among a few it's "cousins" here in Maryland. I think that car would sell for more than the asking price at a "good" auction house during Scottsdale auction week in January or Amelia Island in March. Spending a little money to sell it at a premier and respected auction could yield great returns.

 

thank you. Other than adding the hood with a pristine original and leaving some power enhancers in the engine, I wanted to keep it as it was ordered. I've went round and round about the auction thing. I go to scottsdale each year and have more than enough guys in the area I know that could assist in the delivery prior to me arriving. Problem is the gamble on no reserve. Ive seen crap cars do stupid money and then real nice ones that should have...dont. I dont think I could enjoy myself if it didn't meet expectations. Plus the shipping, entry and commission too. Its like having to add $10,000 to it. I didn't just slap it together to sail it down the road at auction which I feel alot of cars are. Been thinking of mecum due to the reserve. But need to decide soon as there is one close in chicago in a few months.

 

Look up "Gooding &Co." They are NOT a "No Reserve" type auction and have a few sales throughout the year. I've attended many in Pebble Beach and plan to be in Amelia Island in March. They have a great staff and a superb reputation. Lately, they have expanded their catalogue of entries to include muscle cars. I hear you loud-n-clear on the "No Reserve" aspect. I've seen many guys buy there own cars back and the only winner in that sale was the house. Good luck, I hope you "ring the bell"!

 

I looked at all the pictures and its a remarkable car...perfect however to me I think the price may be difficult to get because of the fact it is a standard 442, bench seat and column shift and I wonder how much that plays into it,obviously the restoration work justifies the asking price ...best of luck though hope you get the right person

 

Just one guys opinion. I would not use the Fall Mecum auction to sell your car. The impression I get lately at the Fall auction is that they're generally cars of mediocre quality from people who want to unload them before having to store for the Winter. Saw your car in the pictures and at Nationals. I love the color combo. I really think it would do better at BJ in January. Best of luck, whatever your decision.

My442, I'm an absolute nobody at this site, but common courtesy in a classified ad forum is to not comment on price unless the OP asks for opinions. For those who have seen this car in person, it's pretty obvious why it's priced where it is.

Again, I'm fully prepared for the onslaught of comments about "a 10 post member spouting off", but your post is seriously out of line, as the vehicle in question has been advertised accurately.
