1967 442 Resto mod

I'll call it a resto mod. I never had the original engine and I sold the console, and Air Cleaner. Got the hood but it's damaged, I got a cowl fiberglass hood. Anyway I removed everything and got a fairly good body to start with. Actually a great body, no rust. California car. Will be upgrading the brake and suspension, actually had it on the car already but decided to do the body. It will be a slow process.

"It will be a slow process." All my projects are slow now that I'm retired. When I worked, I was motivated to get stuff done. The 1967's are my favorite year. Keep us informed. Thanks

Parkinson's for the last 13 years has kept me from doing much. I'm hoping Deep Brain Stimulation in January will help me out in getting it back together again. I'm glad I removed the vinyl top, it had started to rust a little underneath. Funny it ran and looked pretty good but prior body filler started to crack and I wanted to attempt to paint it. So I just started tearing it apart. It had a quick paint job before I purchased it in 1991. It had runs and they removed no trim. The rear quarter on the passenger side had body work done to it and there is no rot anywhere which is nice. This will be a long process.

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I feel bad about whining about my petty time managing problems. I do watch my Grandkids 3 days a week and I happy to be able to. The good thing is you have your car and still the desire. Keep chipping away and soon you'll see progress. I be looking for updates. Good luck. Ken

My opinion is one needs to keep moving however slow or any condition. Small accomplishments everyday will start to add up. Keep moving, it beats the chair. I'm pulling for you. Work safe and keep us informed of progress.

Thanks. It might be a little too much. If I don't eat my meds work and I'm like this. Otherwise i'm stuck. I probably tore a good car down too far. But I'd like to paint it and it had old bonds that cracked. Minor repair. I took the vinyl top off and glad I did. Started to rust.

All I can say is cha-cing. A lot of $$ in your combination plan. Seems more race car orientated. Just whatare your plans, race, street/strip or street? I also have a habit of overkill especially on the engine side.

I have all of the parts listed already. Had the car running but needs a full restore, I want to paint it. Thinking of racing it a little bit. It would be the perfect car to restore original because there is no rust, California car. But when I bought it the correct engine wasn't there, had everything 442 : correct carb, air cleaner, console etc. I got the 442 hood but it is damaged, flew up when I was out on the road. It even has the (A.I.R.) Smog pump. I sold the air cleaner and console. The cowl tag is a little different because it was built in Fremont, no 5V etc.

I took it completely apart and it was a running car. The body is on the frame nothing left. Pulled vinyl top off. Glad I pulled it apart. The rear end wasn't set correctly. lots of play. I put a posi in my 12 bolt Olds.

I've enjoyed seeing your progress. Look forward to your updates. Love how the engine sounds in the earlier vid. It is a big project and considering your challenges, its clear to see all your hard work and dedication to it. I think vinyl tops look great on these cars and many others, but I sure don't like what happens underneath them.

Hope to see you having lots of progress in everything. Its going to be a great car.

Thanks. Having Parkinson's is a big burden. I just want to prove to myself that I can doe this. I have most of the parts but getting the rest might be difficult. I lost my job two years ago, I did something out of the ordinary that was caused by my medications. I'm collecting a military retirement and disability through social security. I had eleven years in the government and I lost my retirement from that. I served 35 years for the Navy and now my reputation is ruined. My wife wonders why I took a car apart that was a running. There is nothing else I can remove from the car. I've already had the body off the frame, the bushings need to be changed But having the body supported on jack stands wasn't to safe. I thought it was going to fall once and scared the ba Jesus out of me. I just hope I can find the dough to finish this. I want to paint the car also but not it's currant color. I may look into changing the interior to a lighter color, black gets old. I lost all my retirement savings because I had to pay bills in order to stay in my home. Fortunately my wife makes decent dough, my pay just covers our $3,000 a month mortgage. I will get this car done if it's the last thing I do.

I've rebuilt the engine 5 times. Had a Vette to rebuild also. For the olds had duals quads, changed carbs, changed to roads lifters, put tunnel ram on then Edelbrock heads, then the final build with all the hot parts . I've used the same block for all and I with use my virgin block next go around and have it machined for the pistons. The first block was in limits but I was getting too much blowby crank case pressure. May change to a solid roller cam and victor intake. AS you can see i'm a weakling.

Jmo, I think you need to have a detailed plan of your goals for your car, then scale it back one notch. I not a fan of the tunnel ram/two fours setup. Blow-by? Cylinder wall clearance to loose or rings? Did you try putting bungs in the headers for evaluation? Make a plan for your engine build using the best combo of the parts you already have then sell of what you don't need to free up a little money. Whatever you do, don't jeopardize losing your home or your wife or problems will really snowball. My goal would be to get it back together mechanically and focus on doing right so you don't have to redo it later. Physically as "we" get older we're limited. I always try to work KISS, only my version is Keep It Safe Smart, not the other version which I find "Stupid." So basically, I think the job over and avoid "bull" work by using picker, hoist, jacks etc. No shortcuts. I always try to work on something every day even if it's 20/30 minutes. Keep us informed.

Thanks. The tunnel ram is gone. Using a 950 Holley Ultra. The block I'm using I got a long time ago. I've never had any machine work on it. I got a virgin 455 block and I'm going to build it a little smarter. I went farther than I should have tearing it apart, the bond on the passenger side started cracking. I'll say I got parts everywhere but I know where they all go.

I've loved following all your threads on the many changes you've made on this car over the years that I've been on this site. Look forward to the finished product of this latest one.

I had DBS done, they drilled holes in my skull and put probes in my brain. Then I got a controller in my chest which is wired to the things in my head. Helps with the motor symptoms of Parkinson’s. I really wish I had not taken my car apart.

No. I haven’t tried looking for them. They broke when I removed the moulding.

Well I'm finally going to able to work on the car again somewhat. I finally got the right meds working, along with my DBS ,"Probes" in my brain. I used to freeze up and couldn't walk, it felt like ten tons were on top of me. Now I have almost normal feelings but I get aggravated when working on something so I have to be careful working on the car.

Well i'm trying to sell my 94'vette to pay for the 442 rebuild. i'm going to try to paint it in my garage, will see how that pans out. Hopefully I'll get some money for the corvette because I'd like to start fresh with a virgin 455 block I got, the one I'm using is second hand and I've rebuilt it 5 times. I don't have good piston to cylinder relationship I'm sure. I need to put a roller cam in also. Well that's it for now.

Thanks for the update. I've been taking a break from the Olds myself. Sounds like things are looking up for you. If you do a little everyday you'll soon start seeing progress. Keep us informed.

I started working on the car finally. Been sanding the body to get to the primer state. Need to get a welder. Some prior body work was done poorly. They drilled holes in the body and put bondo on and didn't try to bang out the damage. Just a small area on the right rear quarter panel. Need to fix the dent then weld the holes. I'm going to smooth out the firewall also. Was going to put in a roll cage but I'm not doing that, i don't have thee proper tools to build one from scratch. Need to get the mechanicals done first,

Enjoy the ride. A few years back when I had the tunnel ram which never ran well.

This is the car before iI took it apart, any sane person would have left it alone.

Great to hear the updates on yourself and your car.

Every wife thinks we are crazy for tearing a car down ha ha.

Sane person? That would be like calling me normal. What an insult. 🤣😂
