1964 F85 Cutlass project

Well…. A couple months ago I started searching for a good looking running driving car that I could drive and enjoy and make changes, clean up as I go. I didn’t plan for it to become a project like this so soon 🙄 😂😂

I found a 64 F85 Cutlass Sports coupe with 73k miles. It was a survivor car and was all original with exception of some body work/paint etc…. It has the original 290hp 330/2spd auto. A/C Car

I bought the car Feb 12, 2025 and I had a couple months before the winter weather was gone so I planned to do the suspension, brakes and wheels. I started removing all the factory suspension and was going to clean the frame up and paint it. Then……my mind said “you know the only thing left bolted to this frame is the motor and trans…” 😂. So…. I pulled motor and trans and pulled the frame out. Sandblasted the frame, rear end, core support, many small parts etc and painted them all. I’m cleaning the motor up and repainting it and plan to reuse it for now. Currently I’m in the process of reassembly of the chassis and plan to roll it under the body complete and drop the body back down onto the rolling chassis. Needless to say it’s been a long eventful 5 weeks 😂.

I’ll attach some pictures to this post and will try and keep it updated as I go. I have found a-lot of good information on this page so far and hope I can contribute in my own way.

Joel

Very nice work. Luckily it was well preserved and loved by previous owner/s.

Well bought and well done, Joel.

It does not look as if it ever saw Michigan salt. The frame is as clean as my Los Angeles Vista Cruiser.

Very cool car! And I can’t tell you how cool it is to see all that paperwork. The POP looks brand new!
there’s something very cool about a plain. Jane cutlass restored so nicely.
and the pride of doing all that work yourself has got to feel good.
Kudos!

I got another load of small parts and the heater box back from the sandblaster last week and I got all that stuff painted. Got the engine sealed back up last night and primed it. Plan on painting it tonight. I should be able to have the motor and transmission bolted back into the chassis by the weekend. Will be able to roll it back under the body soon! Will add some more photos in the next few days

Here’s a couple photos from this weeks progress. Got the motor and transmission bolted back in the chassis as well as shifter linkage, driveshaft, manifolds. Transmission lines etc…
