John search on spring liner or leaf spring liner something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1926-1957-Po...ht_2290wt_1163

i am not sure what size (wide) the olds leafs are 2'' or 2.1/4 i guess

Amazing work!

Did you fabricate those patch panels???
I can't imagine panels being available for that car. Very impressive. Obviously a labor of love.

Brake Lines??

What kind of Steel Lines are you installing. Does the steel have a copper coating or is it just the color in the photographs that gives the appearance of Copper?

Is that legal for all the hydraulic pressure that is created in the Netherlands because I know it wouldn't be legal for that application here! I'm just asking....

Hi cliff its not a regular copper line its made for use as brake line
Its a 90% copper 10%nickel alloy
And has the same strenght as regular steel lines but has more benifits than steel Its also known as cunifer brake line

And is legal (even in the usa) to use as brake lines. See http://www.copper.org/applications/a...ive/brake.html for more info

Regards Sander,

I'm glad I made this comment to you as you've been able to enlighten me to innovative ideas in overhauling the Braking Systems and bringing these older cars up to date.

Awesome!

Continues to look great Sander. And I continue to drool at the beautiful workspace you have! Would your uncle like to adopt an American?

What did you paint your frame with? I used POR 15 gloss on mine as well as on the springs. I did use the plastic spring liner you posted about. Thanks! I'm also putting anti-sieze on all the nuts and bolts so the next guy has an easier time!

I noticed you are using new bearings on the differential - were your's shot or are you just starting fresh? Mine all seem to be good except the center drive shaft support bearing. Just curious.

Keep it up,
John

Hi John i think we can work something to adopt you, but your 59 coupe must be part of the deal

on the chassis paint i have used RustOleum semi gloss black
good stuff too

the diff bearings where not realy bad but i figured to do it while i am there
and it made easier to sand blast the housing .
i am now waiting for the bearing set to arrive so i can continue with it
and get it on its rear wheels, and then get the engine installed.

well.... step by step

started the rebuild of the steering box last weekend
and i have 2 units so i picked one of the 2 (they looked the same and in the same condition) started to tear it down cleaning all internal parts etc etc......

and at the point i wanted to start install the rebuilt kit i noticed the unit i picked was slightly different than the schematic told me ???

then i started to look at the unit numbers and found out what i had

mid size application
Geennaam.jpg

full size application ( correct 59 unit)
IMG_3435.jpg

so i needed to start all over again with the correct Unit

only wierd thing is the 59 rebuilt set i got from fusick has a piston seal
smalller 3'' one (that will fit the mid size unit) as it should have been a 3.5'' one ??
but the one on it now is still in good shape so i am good to go.

correct one before cleaning

You're doing great work!

I'm impressed! But, I must ask a question. What is the fascination in the Nordic area of Europe with big late 50's American cars? It seems that you folks LOVE big GM cars and 59 Olds seem to be a favorite? Am I mistaken?
Don't get me wrong, I love them, too. I have a 59 Olds 98 convertible.

Hi Jim
i have no idea why ? i think its the design that make's them so popular and the V8 engine's . there are quite a few early 50's to late 60's full size
american cars over here.

but for the 59 olds its quite rare for the Netherlands from what i know
i think you can count them all on one hand.
there are more 58's over here what i have seen.

Sweden has the most classic american cars in europe

Great Work! Lot's of tidbits of info I can use. What color is the engine paint? Is it from Bill Hirsch? My 61 2 barrel engine paint looks real close. Also, was 59 the last year for that style of cylinder head? I wish Olds carried over the X frame into 61, their pretty flimsy. My 61 Starfire doors would touch the quarters when I jacked it up. At least my sedan offers a bit more rigidity. Your attention to detail is a great inspiration to us all. Just getting my engine and 4 speed conversion done is a challenge, but I would love to do what your doing. Thanks for sharing!

A hello from Holland and I am Back !

hauled the olds back into the garage with the intention to finaly get it finished ! without doing other projects in between
last projects where a 55 pickup and a ford Coe Hauler from my uncle

pulled the body from the chassis and got it in the rotiserie again for some
small welding repairs and body mount brackets welded back in place

will take some pics of that and post them tomorrow

also ordered new interior door panels, carpet and fabric at Sms fabric
but man they are slow... i am glad i made the order early and not at the time i eventualy will need them
the waiting is on the the assembled door panels

thanks Sander,
