1959 convertible project

hello my name is Sander and i am from the Netherlands
currently i am in the progress of a full body-off resto of a 1959 super 88

90% of the body metal work has been done then i figured out it would be a good idea to built a rotisserie
now i can do the last 10% with more comfort

at this moment i am working on the rebuild of the engine and transmission

here some pictures

Thumbs up Rotiserrie!!

I sure like what you have done so far, and the number of pictures are great, but with your Rotiserrie I would have secured both ends of the Rotiserrie so they are joined together with two different size pieces of squared tubing that would slide into each other so you can adjust the different length cars and it would stabilize each end of the Roriserrie when you roll it around without effecting the structure of the Body Shell. Most Rotiserrie's I've seen each end of the Rotiserrie are usually connected to each other some way or other. Just my thought.
Great Project and keep posting when you have the time......

You had a nice looking car to begin with. Were you plans to do the car to this level from the start? How is it to get chrome re-done over there? here it is a PITA. Good luck with it.

its not realy needed to connect both rotisseries together they are ridgid enough to stand alone the connection with square tubbing is optional to make it easier to move it around on uneven terrain.
the 2x 3 weels makes it more difficult

anyway thanks for your concern
Sander,

the plan is to get it like it left the factory one day

chrome is not realy a problem to get done over here, as long you bring the $$$
or in my case the €€€

restored a 58 olds a few year ago, so i am prepared on chrome

Niiice!

Welcome Sander! Looks like you started with a great car and will end with a perfect one. Very nice and very nice work you are doing.

As my name says, I have a 59 Super 88 Holiday Coupe in restoration. Mine will be a driver that will be garaged and only taken out on nice days .

Have you decided on paint yet? Also, curious, will you be keeping the car or selling it? How good or bad was the body when you got it stripped? Mine was waaaaay worse that I thought would be .

yes i have been following your project, nice work and cool to see another 59 being saved !
and yes the plan is to keep the car, the color i am not realy sure yet
but thinking abouth Red exterior with red/white/black interior and black top.

the body looked better on the pictures
Rockers , front floor pans and trunk and brace behind bumper and lower quarters behind rear wheels where gone.

lots of bondo and fresh paint can hide a lot

Yeah, I was going to say.... That didn't look too pretty once you took the paint off. Lol... Looking good though. Nice to see a few of these 59 builds going on. Funny though, until I bought this one, I don't think I have ever seen one, and I have been to lots of shows...

Really looking good! I commend you on the quality of your work. And I wish I had your garage/shop. My 59 barely fits in my Model A size garage!

hi this car drove in Joplin Missouri most of his live for what i know of,
the Tilte i have with it is from 1965.
i did send a letter to the owner name on the title some time ago,
i got answer from his daugther telling me unfortunatly here father past a few years earlier. but she could remember the car !

My Dad purchased the car because of it's heavy frame in order to pull his race car to Tulsa, Oklahoma each week to the races. He was an incredible driver and I remember him winning many races. My father's best friend, Leon Comer told me stories of them all going to the races and once thinking that my Dad was going to wreck the car because it began to fishtail on the highway very badly while pulling the trailer. But my Dad was able to get everything back undercontrol and they were on their way. Tulsa, Oklahoma is about 90 miles southwest of Joplin, Missouri on the Will Rogers Turnpike.

its pretty cool to hear these stories and know a little history on the car

i am doing this car/resto hobby (or sickness just give it a name ?) together with my dad

and he started with the wheel covers spinners by painting them red.
will be a pretty patient job by masking it all off and filling in all the tiny bars in the outer
ring.
