Hey guys it's been a few years since I've worked on this project so I'm hoping I can get some extra help when I run into problems. The body is in excellent shape and I've had the engine/ tranny rebuilt but I still have a long way to go.

It's 1956 88 that's been In my family since it was new. It was stored around the 1970s in a garage while it was still running. I tore into it about a year ago and stopped to deal with other life things.

I plan on keeping it almost entirely stock. I had an over-sized cam put in the 324 that was designed for the stock engine and I would like to run duel exhaust. I notices in the frame there is a another hole for what I think is a second exhaust pipe. If I run duel exhaust would I need a "H" or "X" pipe?

Seems to be a regular "88" .Did it have the 4 barrel carburetor or 2 barrel?Not too many have one that age that's been in the same family since new.Most "50's owners hang out on the vintage Olds forum. Welcome back, I moved your post to the Major Projects section. I would recommend an H pipe for your car.

 

With the X frame an H or X pipe is going to be difficult to install. Unlike the 54 and 55, the 56 does have the frame cut on the left side for dual exhaust since they were available in 1956.

 

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like a Super 88 (emblem on the fender looks like a bullseye with the 88 in the middle) and the interior looks like my Super 88. If it is, it came with a four barrel carb. Dual exhaust was optional, and, as Redoldsman just stated, difficult to add.

 

Not near as bad as the 54 55. The vacuum tank isn't in the way and as stated from Redoldsman above the frame is already cut for a passage way to the rear. Now if you add a H pipe then you would have troubles, bunch of stuff (mostly frame) will be in the way. A precut and bent exhaust system useto be available through Fusick but I don't know if they still have it in their catalog... Tedd

 

You are right, the car spent most of its life in the mid-west. It is just the base model 88 with a 4 barrel carb.
