1955 Olds 88

I have had this car for just over a year and have done nothing except get tires that hold air. I just got a portable Garage (tent) last week and hope to get the car inside soon. I have 5 other Oldsmobile's to feed and care for so this project has to wait for funds.

I took a few "before" pictures this morning. The car sat for more than 26 years. The elderly gentleman I bought it from intended to restore it but let it go due to failing health. I also got a 1954 4 door in the package deal. Let's just leave it at " I paid Too much for what I got" but at the time I wanted it real bad.

Raccoons and other rodents have been living in it for years and it smells really bad. I plan on power washing the interior before I garage it and start working on it. I have never done body work or welding before so we will see how far I can get w/o help. I will try to post pic's as I go.

55 88

I am pretty sure the passenger side front fender came off of a 1955 4 door 88. The "88" emblem is round and the driver side is two separate 8's ( 8 8 )

I own mostly G body cars so this is new to me and will probably have many questions. Please bear with me. Oh, the deal also included a 1955 88 4 dr. It was cannibalized real hard and very rusty. I thought it might yield a part or two, although I am not sure if any parts will interchange.

That's a nice style. The surface rust is a challenge but there are ways (none too fast) to address it.

Good luck!

another picture

I have front bumper and grill also. It was re-chromed but very poor quality. This is probably not going to be a show car so it will have to do.

Previous owner painted interior turquoise and white, it all peeling off. All of the bumper and body bolts were in a tin can just ahead of the radiator support , exposed to weather, and rusted to a massive pile of @#$%

You're welcome and I feel your pain--changed my profile picture (it's different on my profile) and it didn't change for public viewing. What would life be without challenges....

Power wash the interior eh? Well sounds like a solution, do you plan on replacing the upholstery then? Good luck and nice find.

Your VIN (557XXXX) indicates a "Plain" 88 which is what the two separate 8's on the left fender indicate - the round on the passenger side is from a "Super" 88 - which would have had a 4 barrel carb in lieu of the 2 barrel yours has.

These are fun cars but can be a little frustrating to find parts for - all need the same parts and they mostly fit '55 only and are scarce to find in good condition.

Best of luck and keep us posted.
