Concerning Your Firewall Mount For Power Brake Conversion, do You Feel Any Flex When Engaging The Brakes Or Does The 16ga. plate Give A Sturdy Enough Feel. thinking About Going This Route On My '55 And Wondering If I Should Consider Going With A Little Heavier ga. metal For The Plate. nice Setup Larry

I've not had any issue with it. The S-10 bracket also has a place to bolt a support to it up under the dash. This helps to compensate for the downward force when you brake. Between the two I don't have any issues. Would it be a problem to go with a heaver gauge, no. If I didn't have that bolt under the dash I might go a little thicker.

Replaced the ball joints/upper arms and front motor mount on my wife's car. Have to keep the daily's up and running and safe. Well... enough on that.
I was able to get a lot of work done on the Old's. I wasn't able to get the brake lines hooked up but all the brakes components are on!
Here was my test fit inside my wheel a couple weeks ago just to make sure my wheels would fit. Here you can see the back side and how the custom bracket works.

And now to the install process...
Stock bare spindle.

This is the scarebird kit. It uses the stock spindles and is a direct bolt on piece. No modifications required. Here is the custom bracket bolted on.

All of the components are from different vehicals and can be purchased from any parts store. These rotors are from a 1/2 ton 1995 Silverado.

The brake calipers are from a 1970 Eldorado

We cruised around town this past weekend. Had date night and went to the gangster dueling piano bar. Rolled up to drop my wife off and the staff went nuts over the car. So much so the owner asked us to park the car right in front and that he wouldn't have it towed. Prime parking for free just for driving Olds...heck yea!

I would much prefer these because I want to use the "Dog Dish" factory caps which will only fit on the original Olds wheels.

Got everything switched over to the new Master Cylinder.
Now I just need to bleed the lines, hook up the vacuum line and she'll be ready to go!
Here is the box that I had to remove.
![](https://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r230/cratescar/5610e8f7.jpg)
It allowed "fresh air" in at the drivers feet. Never really felt much with it open, and I'm pretty sure that is where one of the leaks was coming from.
So out came the box. I used the box for the template. Cut a plate out of 16 gauge steel. The philips head screws that held the box on were a pain to take off. Had to drill a couple out. So bought new bolts to put in their place.
Painted the plate, cut the holes for the master cylinder and mounted everything up.
(The extra hole is a drain hole, need to hook a 90deg elbow and hose to drain)

Looks Like Bottom Edge Of Booster Is pretty Well Aligned With Bottom Edge Of Your 16 Ga. plate And Centered Right And Left In Plate. I Am Planning On Going This Route On My 1955 and Didn't Want To Drill Holes Until I knew About Where They Needed To Be. Thanks For Any Reply. Larry

55 Questions
Really nice looking 55. I just got a 55 88 2 dr hardtop. Going to be pretty involved project, I think. I know that I'm going to need all new weatherstripping, so does anyone know a good source? Will any 55 Chevy stuff work, since bodies are so similar? Thanks.
