Nice looking project you found yourself. I am sure it will look great with you working on it. After I am done with the Vista I am doing I might have one more car in me to do. I am thinking 30's But love the 50's car like the 57 super 88. Good luck once you get started on it. Steve

Ideas to avoid...

Pretty. But, what's that under the hood?

All my ideas have been discussed with Ben. He has other work in front of me but I am hoping by April or early May. Its for the best if I see it then its going to make it that much harder not to work on it.

I would never wash that. Make the mechanicals sharp and the interior liveable. Leave the exterior alone. That kind of patina is hard to find.

Maybe if it was an antique gun, but IMO....that's too nice an Olds to not do the whole thing. I'm sure Richard will unveil the grand plan for it when he gets the rendering from Ben.

I will sport the patina for a while but once the car is done it will be a finish painted hot rod.

It's just my opinion, of course. I have a real love of the barn fresh look that's all the rage these days. There are ways of protecting the car for future resto while sporting the weathered look.

Meanwhile, I really dig your car.

Wonderful ride. You've got the best of all hydros. The 324 would run with or past anything in 1954. How about some Weiand valve covers on a good rebuild and maybe 3 dueces. I always wanted to paint one of these turquoise and charcoal.

Richard, can't wait to see the drawings and the direction you're going to take this in. I have to admit, I am still drooling over your 66 that you built as that turned out to be a very special car. Wish I had the $$$ to buy that when you decided to sell.

Richard there is no question whatever you build is going to be bad ***. I thin we should get a lottery going as to how many post this thread will have when you are done with the car. I know it will be more than your Cutlass and Rob's interior thread.

HaHa when ya'll see the concepts they will get 3-4 pages of comments by themself

I've got something up my sleeve today that is going to help make this car a reality even sooner than expected. I will share details when it's on my trailer.

Looking at some aftermarket options but $$$$ may keep me using and modifing the factory one. I was looking at Roadster Shop frames at Goodguys last weekend and they are a work of art but $16,000-$17,000 can buy me a lot of other parts for this car and tools to build it.

Picked up my new TIG welder at lunch today .

Ok not quite but the profit from this will pay for it. I was not even looking for anything and this fell in my lap a couple days ago and I made the final deal today. Its been sitting in someone's garage for 5 years after driven a couple years when a restoration was finished.

Just a heads up, the Vista Cruiser frame does fit under these bodies. Just need to trim off the back end of it though, but the wheelbase is the same.

I'll keep that in mind......

I have decided to let a small piece of meat for the sharks that are smelling blood in the water. This is one of the concepts I am working with. This will not be the color combination but it give you guys an idea of the direction that I will be taking the car over the next few years.

I hope I get to be the first to give a response. Man I love it. I really like the black and red. It is interesting to scroll just right and get the car on the trailer at the bottom and the drawing at the top.

Well my initial concepts are in. I have it narrowed down to 3 of these that I am listing. I still have to pick one so the final rendering can be completed. Hiring Ben Hermance to put my ideas to paper is some of the best money I have ever spent. There are several ideas that sounded good in my head but once seeing them are now scrapped. Love it or hate it this is what I am building.

I like 3 and 5 the best. But is there a reason that they dont have the chrome piece moved down like on concept 2 on the bottom? 5 with the added chrome would be awfully schmexy i think. Just my .02, this is your project and it will look amazing i am sure when you are done

I think I like the blue and black the best followed by the black and red. We all know this is going to be the most spectacular car on here.

Richard, which ever design you choose, I'm certain it will look like a million dollars when you complete it. I feel I would be remiss if I didn't throw this out there. When you finish the car, should you ever find yourself a little pressed for space in your shop, I would be more than willing to offer to keep this car at my place for as long as necessary. No charge to you at all! Logistics would need to be worked out but that's easy. And I know cars should not sit for long periods of time and therefore I would make sure it got plenty of exercise. Just trying to help a guy out if I can.

In reality Black / Red is probably my favorite also but I just don't want to deal with the upkeep of that much black. If it was a show car trailer queen I would but I plan on driving the crap out of it on the autocross, drag strip and cross country on Power Tour.

Concept 3 with the black wheels and red lines of 3b1. Chose 3 over 3b1 because the silver roof might be a little cooler inside during the hot Texas summers?
Also like the burgandy of 5. Im sure it will look nice no matter which direction you take.

Been thinking the same thing. I asked for a version like that last night. I don't care about the heat thats what a/c is for but I might like the look of the silver roof better. I am down to a version of the silver/black, blue/black or gold/white
