My 72 Cutlass covertible top boot came out of the slide behind the seat.
I'm having trouble getting it back in. I'm told it should slide back in, but I'm having trouble wrestling this back in. Just wondering if there is some secret to putting it in the slide. Or can I take a rubber mallet and tap it in,(Gently of course).

It might help if you coat the edge that goes into the "slide" with silicone or something. It should not be that difficult to get in.

The "slide" is pretty long, is it not? I do not understand how it came all the way out. Is there something wrong with the "slide" that it is not keeping the boot cover in the track?

 

As mentioned silicone or soapy water and lots of elbow grease - its not very easy at least not on my car

 

X3 from above. I reshaped mine with a wedge and hammer to open up the grove a little only in the tight spots, I haven't taken it out since I did this either.....Tedd

 

Make sure the track is clean. You can run a small wire brush through it. I used a small amount of lithium grease on mine and it goes in and out fine

 

It is a lot easier to pull in than it is to push in. Silicone should do the trick.

 

Thanks, I do think the slide or track is bad. Must that be put in by a professional shop or can we replace it.

The hardest part of the job is taking the rear seat cushion out. Once that is out, two bolts to remove the rear seat back then there are 5 to 7 screws holding the track in.

The boot cover is a lot easier to slide in if the top is up.
