I know there are advertisers in Hemmings Motor News that do this kind of work but I am in the same predicament with my '68. I'm hoping there are others here that can recommend, through their own personal experience, a solid, reliable restorer of steering wheels!

You need to set expectations on this. The steering wheel restorers you see advertising in Hemmings will completely remove the cracked plastic outer ring and mold a new one. Expect to pay $700 or more for this process, depending on color and complexity of the wheel. A friend of mine had the wheel for his 1963 Grand Prix done, and since it had metallic colors and a clear portion of the rim, his price was significantly more than that.

If this price point shocks you, then plan on either finding a nicer used wheel or repairing it yourself. Eastwood and others sell epoxy molding compound that is used to fill the cracks. Once it hardens, sand it to shape and paint the wheel. Not as nice or as durable as a remolded wheel, but the price is about an order of magnitude lower. Your call.

How awesome are these steering wheel restorers? If one had a 30 dollar core steering wheel, what would come back? Concourse level, rolled off the factory line quality?

The ones I've seen are as good or better than factory.
