Let me start by saying, I'm not setting out to build a 100 point concourse Barret Jackson car, that being said, I have a 69 Cutlass S post blue on blue with white roof. The int. is a complete mess, I don't think there is one re-usable part? Now the question, should I keep the blue, of save myself the stress and go Black ? I don't want to get part way through and find out some widget is not available in blue. I'm not too concerned with the originality issue, but what color would you like in a car ? and who's kit should I go with? year 1 has different stage kits that would give me a lot of stuff like seat foam, carpet , panels stuff like that..... I have never seen a good carpet, they all call it molded, but they all seem to fit like crap.

 

By far the best quality is with Legendary.

I decided to try to save some nickel and dime it and went with PUI from the partsplaceinc. It turned out well, but it took me 6 months to install and line everything up...

I would go black, because even if you have a blue part now, you can 'vinyl paint" it black

 

i would first see if I could find the hard to find stuff first in order to keep the blue like the dash pad, steering wheel, maybe seat belts i didnt really notice those though. if i could find the parts like that the rest im pretty sure the rest can be had repo. in short i would try to keep the blue just because you dont see it that much and it would make the car stand out in a crowd more, but im also of the idea to keep cars original. have fun restoring.

 

I was the 2nd owner of a 69 442 club coupe, and it must have a 'deluxe' bucket seat interior, as it was a 3-tone blue!
Have only seen 1 other 3-tone blue, and that was on my '65 Jetstar I, and I loved them both!
Granted, you're restricted to blues, white and maybe black, but keep the blue, from the same manufacturer, to keep the same shade!!!

 

My interior is going from white to black. I'm also not concerned about originality on my 72 Cutlass. Black will be hot in the summer though. The kids cant wait til I get cloth seats.

 

I changed my interior from nasty covert gold to dark saddle. I love the switch. I changed the carpet. seats and headliner.

I havnt done the door panels yet, they're too $$ for me to bother right now.

it's not perfect, but i did it all myself.

 

If you decide against the original blue, I'm partial to the '69 parchment interior which would look good with the white top. Carpet, dash and many other parts are black which is easy to paint/dye from blue.

Legendary offers sizeable discounts occasionally so keep you eyes open.

 

yep, even my dash is trashed, looks like a dry lake bed ......The headliner is the only thing I can recall that didn't make me shake my head. I suppose I should be glad, I would rather change a dash and int. than open my trunk and see my feet !

as a side note, consistent color is a real concern, black is black (pretty much) but too many times I have seen many variations of a given color, whites that look creamy or different shades of blue .....it would really suck to pay $$$$ for an int. only to have door panels look different than seat, and carpet, etc.

 

As long as you buy the vinyl parts (seat covers, door panels, etc) from the same mfg, the colors will be consistant.

You start buying each peice based on price from different places, you'll wind up with stuff from different MFGs.

As others have said, you can dye interior panels with SEM plastic & vinyl dye- however it can be really tough to get color matched to be exactly what you desire.

I like blue interiors, i think they look real good, but thats just me. Black is classic works everywhere. other colors are hit & miss, but original is original, and there is something to be said for keeping it that way.

 

I do like the blue, and cars are only original once ...but its hard enough to locate a good black dash, let alone a blue one? I have mixed feelings about dyeing (not the white light kind) I have had it turn out great, and not so great. paint stores says "lets what the computer is calling for" so can't argue with that logic. I do want to get an interior "package" for economics and consistency.

 

I changed my interior from white to black, but had it done semi custom locally. From headliner to carpet and everything in between. It was less expensive than buying all the pieces and then having to install it on top of that.

 

I'm finishing up the interior on my '72 Supreme. Stock interior was white with white vinyl top on pewter silver body. Kept the same body color, but went with black top and interior. All Legendary, except for the carpet and top. As soon as the back seat and panels are in, I'll post some pictures of the finished product. Chumley
