Seat/Shoulder Belts

Hi,
I have a 1970 442. It has a lap belt that works great. I also have a shoulder belt that has the same (male) end that the lap belt has, but I have not place to plug it in. It seems that it would take another (female) belt to plug it in, but I can't find one. Can someone tell me what their 1970 442 is like? I don't mind having just a lap belt, but I'm not sure what the law says about lap/shoulder belts. It may be that the shoulder belt is a mandatory part of the law.
Please assist.
Thanks,
BQ

Seat belt laws vary by state. They are mandatory in Illinois but not once have I been checked for belts as they seem to let the old cars go by ( though I wear mine anyway)

As for your shoulder belt there should be another female buckle bolted to the same bolt for the buckle for your lap belt. Check eBay as sometimes you can find individual seatbelts cheap

As I recall, the shoulder belt became mandatory with the 1970 models. That explains your male shoulder belt that you have nothing to put it into. I believe someone before you has removed the corresponding female buckle on the right side of the driver seat place.

I don't have an Olds to compare yours to, but I do have a 1970 GTO hardtop with a bench seat/fold down arm rest. It has two female buckles and a male belt to the right of the driver, and three female buckles to the left of the passenger seat place. The two female buckles on the driver side are for the driver seat and shoulder belts and two of the three female buckles on the passenger side serve the same purpose for the passenger. The third female buckle on the passenger side pairs with the mail belt to the right of the driver for anyone sitting in the middle of the seat (I'm speculating this third set wouldn't be there if the car had bucket seats).

That makes for a lot of seat belts! I'm the third owner of this GTO and I don't believe the shoulder belts on either side have ever been out of their retainers. And all those extra seat belts in the middle - they just get tucked down so they are out of the way. I've owned this car for 26 years and I've never used the shoulder belts.

Hope this helps.
