I have some replacement interior parts that I need to dye/paint to match the turquoise interior on my 68 Toronado. I have the interior paint codes I need, but of course, these are not very common shades. I know Just Dashes sales DIY aerosol kits, but they want $249.00 for a pint of just one color. :/ Does anyone know where I can find a similar kit that is a little easier on the wallet?

 

That sounds a bit steep for a kit, I can't offer much help with getting the correct paint but if you do it's not hard to DIY. There are many post on repainting interio parts. Cliff version clean clean clean and then clean a little more with SEM soap, then I use wax and grease remover then an adhesion promoter then your paint SEM also has a low luster clear if you want a little more protection after paint.

 

I had an automotive paint store color match a piece of trim I took in to them. They matched it well. It was SEM and was $55 a pint. However it was plenty to do all the interior plastic parts sans the dash. It sprayed well despite being water based and my first job with a paint gun and compressor. However, DO use the adhesion promoter and clean the heck out of it first.

 

I am thinking I might just have to go that route. I am just a little scared of using a spray gun for the first time.

 

So was I. With a little practice, it's not that hard. I did use SEM rattle can black on the green dash that I picked up and it came out great. Like said, clean, clean, and clean. Then use the adhesion promoter for plastics. I also touched up a couple of other areas, and the match was really good.

 

This was my biggest concern, too, esp with such expensive paint!
I used a $15 harbor freight gun, my old 2 gallon compressor, a filter-drier, regulator set at 30-40 pounds, and a lot of patience. and it came out great.
just start out practicing a little on cardboard, then on to the parts. Do light coats a few minutes apart to prevent runs.
I was lucky enough to even do my speaker grilles without filling the holes with paint!
