I did the console and door in my poncho about 12 years ago. They were blue and I dyed them black with a brush on dye. Used a foam brush IIRC and it was very thin, like water. They still look good, no wear and the door is the padded leaner type.

My auto paint store has it and can mix any color just like paint.

It depends on what you're trying to color. Rigid plastic parts (console, hard plastic seatback panels, kick panels) work pretty well. Flexible parts that don't see much motion (dash pad) also work pretty well. Flexible parts that see a lot of wear (seats, for example) will quickly crack and flake.

In any case, surface cleaning and prep are extremely important. If any silicone-based product (ie, Armor All) has ever been used, you'll have a heck of a time getting it all off. Most manufacturers of plastic paint and dyes also sell an etch product. Be sure to use this first, after thoroughly cleaning the parts.

I think mine was like Varikote, it was pre-internet so it was probably from Eastwood or Year One, maybe Bill Hirsch? I can't remember what I did last week.
