Hey All

Just looking for suggestions on what to use or do to prep my kick panels and arm rests plastics to spray. I know about using a couple light coats but is there anything cleaning wise guys have done?

SEM Sand Free, after 2-3 good washings with Dawn dish soap.

Spray the Sand Free on, and while it is wet, put on the first top coat....a thin coat is fine.

Let it flash off, and hit it with the final coat.

 

 

 

 

Before you use the adhesion promoter you might want to use a degreaser. You should be able to get some at your local auto parts store.

 

 

 

clean well yes, always use a solvent cleaner [ plastic prep] you can use bulldog adhesion promoter if you like but not necessary if cleaned properly.I never use primer on plastic except for on bumper covers [flexible primer]. SEM products & vinyl dyes are made for plastics and will adhere fine.

 

QUERY: Does not scrubbing withe Dawn perform the function of degreasing? It does for birds in oil spills.

 

Dave, I used Dawn dish soap on my 71 98 after I had finished all of the prep work and it was ready for paint. I was told this is only the first step in degreasing. It might be overkill but better safe than sorry.
