I saw a youtube thing from a model car guy who was testing chrome products, and he had a dry chrome powder that you'd apply over black paint, and buff the shine. It created a beautiful chrome finish on plastic parts. It's hard to find, but I think a little research, you could find a chrome product to refinish your plastic chrome yourself. The product he was pitching is an electroplating powder...
