package tray jute padding

package tray jute padding
I got a jute padding for my new package tray.(Wanted to do it right.) Test fitting it revealed that it fits pretty snug, and I have to pull down fairly tight to bring the vinyl strip down to where it glues to the area behind the seat back. Anyone used the padding on their tray, and any tips recommendations? Thanks in advance, Chumley

I used PUI jute padding and IMHO the insulation was too thick and caused the package tray to bow up in the middle. Twice the thickness of the original that was removed from my '70 442.
So....next time I put a package tray in using the jute insulation I will.... cut out holes in the jute padding around the areas that will be raised up by the impressions in the metal deck, so that the padding will lay lower and not bow the cardboard package tray.
Just my $.02

I finally installed the tray with the padding yesterday, and it came out nice. I was just worried that the adhesive would have a hard time with the extra pull on the vinyl because of the jute. Actually the padding was only about 1/8" when compressed. I didn't cut out any of the openings. I'll do that later if I decide to put in rear speakers. Chumley

I would return the OER package tray if that's what you bought.
They're junk. Cheap thin materials that don't last long in humidity before buckling and curling.
Been through 4 of them.
The jute padding is very thick, iirc like 1/2" + because the paper thin garbage
board they use to repop them isn't thick, so they make up for it with more cushion.
Presently I made my own , and used a dynamat alternative instead of the jute
and 1/8" hardboard as a base, covered it with my own Vinyl and the right adhesive.

I would give Legendary a shot. OER is typically a junk grade repop NOT made to last like OEM was.
Metallurgy is lower on metal parts, weatherstripping is latex foam garbage not designed to last.
Fenders are thin gauge steel that flex easily.
Legendary's reputation exceeds most normally. Hopefully they used quality materials.
