It is quite common to find 70-72 Cutlasses (and many other classics for that matter) with dashes cut out for modern radios/cd players. Well my recently acquired 71 Olds also has been cut up.
I ended up purchasing an unmolested dash and may perhaps do a swap after I get it re-dyed but from what I have researched it is a real pain to install the dash.
For the time being, I got my hands on vintage wood grain Triple Gauge Panel with a pattern similar to my car's trim. I ended up installing the triple gauge panel (upside down) and added a set of Autometer Gauges where the dash was cut up. My car had a set of older triple gauges anyways and were mounted in the middle of the dash. Since I wanted to keep gauges, I got to upgrade them as well. Im quite happy with how it all looks.
The Wood grain isnt a perfect match but only a keen eye is able to tell. As far as the radio/audio set up, I had posted before - I am going to mount a portable Bluetooth speaker under the dash. It'll have a better sound quality then most 6x9 speakers mounted around the car and no need to take power from the car for the audio system or get into wiring. I plan to wire it up to a solar USB phone battery pack and leave it in the car. My car actually came with 2 marine speakers mounted under the dash so that gave me the idea..
