Curious to see what others have come up with as far as modifying and mounting gauges in the traditional cluster location. I haven't decided on whose gauges I want to use or how I want to install them ranging from bolt in packages to custom panel inserts. (1970 Cutlass)
Sun Super Tach II stuffed into the clock pod, and gauge trio under dash (ammeter, oil pressure, water temperature). I prefer the 270 degree sweep gaues as they are easier to read at a glance. Some folks prefer a voltmeter, but I like to see the charge or discharge rate. A voltmeter to go along with the ammeter would give all the charging info I would ever need.
Back in the 80s-90s on my 1970 Supreme I had the gauge trio in the dead 8 track housing. Haven't bothered to install that housing into the 'vert.
I went with Dakota Digital for my recent resto. Love the classic OEM look and the gages work awesome. Keeps the dash clean along with the retro type stereo as well.
Dakota Digital Cluster---several options for colors, backlighting and etc. The hookup for the cluster is clean and very straightforward with the I/O signals box that interfaces via Ethernet cable to the cluster.
All Autometer. Usual vitals oil psi,, water temp, tach, speedo, volt meter and gas guage in dash. Oil temp, transmission temp and Innovate DLG a/f guage under dash
Well done. I like your tach orientation. It puts your max rpm around top center, which plays down the needlessly-extended (for an Olds) range.
Thanks - exactly how I planned it. With the 6 speed there's LOTS of shifting which I love. I like the 6k range right in front of my eyes along with the shift light. That's why I also like the speedo and tach in the center so the tach lines up perfectly in my eyesight. With the 3 gauge setup I always seemed to be looking around the steering wheel for the tach. My shift light goes off at 5500 which usually gets my shift at about 5700 - 5800. Rev limiter is at 6100.

I also love the 0 to 60 mph feature on the Speedhut speedo. I can practice launches in certain areas where the speed limit is 55 mph and there's a stop light with LESS of a chance of getting a ticket. Since I try for zero tire spin it's usually pretty safe. I need to get into the 3s!! Lots more practice needed.
I know I am late to the discussion, but it took a while to find the photo... This was in my 70 442. I started working on this but never got around to finishing it up, and just kept my under dash gauges. The ashtray door closed perfectly. I was going to add a combo usb/line in plug to the cigarette lighter for the radio to hook up to my phone
