I would like to redo my stock vinyl interior on my 69 (buckets and rear bench) with leather. Does anyone know of a place that is making leather covers that match the patterns of the stock vinyl? I realize I could take the existing seats to an interior shop to have them make them but I imagine that would be pretty pricey.

give Saldana's a call. # is 281 489 2580.They are located on HWY 6 South near 288. I was just over there at his shop last week, talking about him doing the seats in leather for my 68. They did my 72 in leather and I am pleased. It's going to cost about 1,000 to have them done and they will blast the springs and paint them as well. here is pictures of my seats they did.

There are some very good reasonably priced upholstery shops out there. Mine is all custom, but with vinyl.

Thanks for the info. I will definately give them a call. The seats look great. 1000 is not bad at all considering a set of legendary covers will cost about 600 then add the labor.

They were the only shop that I had visited which was about 10 who could/would duplicate the pattern. The guy basically does work on classics, I am also going to get them to do the convertible top but I am a long ways away from that but I am going to go ahead and let them do the seats very soon and put them away once I get them back.

Here in N Texas, I use Southside Trim. They do most of the new car leather installs for car dealerships. They will duplicate stock interior patterns, and do very nice work.

 

Spoke with Southside Trim this morning and it sounds like it would be about $2000 to recover 2 buckets and a rear bench in leather. That doesnt include foam and frame work though. I may stick with Saldana as $1000 is definitely more in my budget.

Sean, ask them to also put in the deep pleats where the twin stitching goes across. That's a common mistake that's made by most shops. The best way I can describe it is with my own car. I had the drivers seat redone quite a few years ago (only the left panel) The shop just sewed straight across to try and match the pattern. Note the passenger side and the profile difference? The Passenger side is still OEM. That's how you want it to look if you're going for OEM look. If not, that's ok too. I'd be curious to know if duplicating that original look will cost more. IMO a good shop should be able to do it for the same price? I'd love to have leather in my car too, but naugahyde works fine for me.

Allan I see what your saying. The drivers side is a bit flat, and the passenger side is more textured or raised. I think they sew in a bit of foam into the covers to give it the raised look so when the put it on the flat seat foam it gives the seems depth.
