Interior fabric suppliers

So my color vision, once again, has let me down. It's a good thing the missus is around to keep an eye on me.

I have a 66' Toronado that I thought, for ages now, had a black interior. Frost green on the outside, black on the inside. I ordered samples from SMS for headliner material and seat material in black and thought I had everything sized up correctly.

Anyway, the missus comes along today and looked at the samples and asked me what was I doing. After I told her about my plans she kindly informed me that the samples look like they'll be nice but they're the wrong color. I thought she was joking. Anyway, she informs me that the interior is clearly green. I said....no way, green isn't even an option......is it??? I looked it up, sure enough, Midnight Green. Holy smokes, all this time I was thinking it was black. Now that I look at it, I can kinda see that it's a very dark green but it's just not obviously green to my eyes.

Sheesh. Almost ordered up all the wrong stuff. Could have been pretty costly. Unfortunately SMS doesn't seem to stock the headliner material in midnight green (code 52).

Are there any other suppliers for the materials other than SMS? Maybe the headliner is actually black? I s'pose I should get the missus to look at the headliner to make sure because I certainly can't be trusted.

Hopefully a more knowledgeable Toro fan will chime in. I would imagine finding that green will be along the lines of finding hen's teeth.
I get what you are saying about thinking it was black. I had no idea that I was "color blind" until I got my CDL license years ago. I can see colors but colors that are close can mess with me some.

My 66 Rivera GS was was plum metallic with a plum interior. Talk about impossible to find. I bought the car from my first wife's Grandpa. Over the years he had bought out an interior shop of the same material. He had that interior done perfectly.

Good luck with your search. 👍

How about you post a photo of the cowl tag?

Well, since 052 is green, why would you think it was black? Every time I've bought from SMS, they require the trim code off the cowl tag for this reason.

Well somehow I managed to order two samples of black without giving them the code. There's a good chance I just selected the black code under the assumption that's what I needed and I never bothered actually checking the code on the car.

Now that I've defended my stupidity/disability adequately, to get back on track..... anyone know of any other suppliers?

I no longer have any references for other GM carlines, but if Chevelle or GTO also used code 52 interior trim their repro suppliers might have the headliner fabric. A Riviera supplier might have it too.

Ahh the Riv! I forgot all about that they shared some of this stuff. Thanks for that, I'm going to have a look around and see what I can find out.

Try here:
The show a dark green headliner for 66-70 Toronado's. I've purchased a number of items from them.

Yes, color blindness is a challenging thing. I see color but some colors are recepted differently by my eyes. I can be about 85% certain and have worked in a few jobs where good color vision would have helped. "Most of the time" I adapt to the situation. Thank goodness my wife and kids have good color vision, Also, if my daughter would have had any male children there is a good possibility, they would have been color blind. It's passed through your mother's father from what I've heard. My brother is also color blind. I always ask when color is involved and I have to make a decision.

Try Automotive Interiors in Massachusetts for the headliner. The OCA has a 66-68 Toro advisor and the club has a Toro only chapter, perhaps they could assist you.
