Headliner different color than interior

On a 70 442, would it have been possible to special order a headliner in black with a ivory interior?

My 442 had no interior in it when I bought it, other than reminants of a black headliner The cowl tag says interior should be ivory.

I know it could have been changed in its life, but if it was it was early on as the headliner pieces are really aged. I have wanted to ask for sometime, just now getting around to it. I haven't seen one this way, yet.

The Product Information Manual says that most interior items (dash, console, floor mats, package shelf, seat belts, steering column, etc.) were black for cars with Ivory interior. I don't see the headliner mentioned, but I bet it was supposed to be black, too. No special order needed. Someone please confirm ......

Interesting...I have seen some with the ivory headliner, but not black. Maybe more common that I thought. I would like to hear other thoughts on this.

The ones I have seen, to my recollection, are:

ivory/parchment: headliner, top 2/3rds door panel, sail panels, package tray, seats, a pillars

black: dash, column, wheel, carpet, kick panels, lower doors, belts

Troy. I don't know if it helps but my 70 was all green on the inside. It didn't
have a console in it, but I bet it was green too. It's getting a black one and black
steering column as well.

That's what I have typically seen as well, with the exception of the package tray, which I have seen it black.

Mine, I am pretty sure what was there was original- I know the package tray was - had black sail panel, back package tray, and the reminants of a black headliner.

That's typically what I see,as well, on color interiors. It's all uniformed. I don't think I have seen a colored interior that has had black components, but I may not have paid attention.

I can say back in the day, I had a 72 CS that had the white interior, black package tray, black a pillars, and a blue consol. (Oddly enough the consol survived, and needs re-dyed. I think I am going to black for this car. I already cut it for the his/her shifter.)

My old 1970 Cutlass Supreme hardtop came with pearl interior. The dash, column, steering wheel, console, seatbelts, and carpet were black. The seats, and door panels were pearl. The headliner, visors, A pillars and package tray were parchment.

If you decide on a black headliner and black visors, I have a new ones in the 70 style
I'm not going to use. I thought about it but it wouldn't look right with the dark green visors.
My plan was to go with black interior but that has changed to the ugg, green,
after I found the build sheet. I may have found an original 70 OAI hood, fingers crossed...

On my current 1970 Convertible I converted to pearl interior(originally medium blue). I choose to do the A pillars, windshield header, and visors black. I thought it would look the best with the black dash and no headliner. I'm pretty sure that's how they would have came for the factory too but not positive.

I saw a picture on here a few years black with a 1970 convertible with pearl seats and door panels and blue dash, column, console, seatbelts and carpet. Not sure if factory original but it looked sharp.

There was a Chevy option, and it stands to reason an Olds option as well, to get a black wheel and column regardless of the interior. I have a blue chevy that the only things that are not blue are the tires, the engine, and the steering wheel and column, and the build sheet calls out "blk str/clmn"

Of the 70/71 Cutlass and 442's we've owned with Pearl interior, all had a white headliner. With the Pearl interior, '70 had white a-piller covers, while the '71 had black a-piller covers.

I'll keep in mind. I don't know what I am going to do. I like to see the combination because I can't really picture it. It my mind, I don't think it would look right.

Good luck on the hood. Fingers crossed.

This brings up another point. The 442 was a late production, July, and a Freemont build. I wonder if that makes any difference.
