I am taking apart my dash to clean it and possibly paint it. I don't know what this is, and I can't find it in the assembly manual. It is located on the backside of the dash between the lighter and ashtray. Any clues?

Illuminator for the ashtray

a lamp holder resides in the open end of the tube- possibly still hanging on your wiring harness?

 

It' the recepticle for the ashtray light. There should be a wire with a socket and a bulb that goes in there. All the reproduction houses have the wire and socket if yours is missing.

That is actually for a '66-67, but Year One stocks the '68-69 as well (they just don't have a picture of it).
