I just ordered a new set of doorlocks for my Cutlass Supreme 1970. How do I remove the doorpanels?

I guess I can figure it out by myself but my experience tells me that there is always some tips and trix for every car.

First of all how do I remove the thing I use to roll down the windows with? (I donīt know the name of this thing in english) There is no power windows.

 

Remove door pull strap and armrest.

Also here is a shot of my panel from the back -


There are 3 "pop-off" clips on each side, about 5-6 scres at the bottom. Once there are disengaged, push the top part into the door and lift the panel up. It should come off......

The pop-off clips often damage the wooden door panel, so a slotted strong thin piece of steel is useful for this. As you may guess, there is a special tool made to do this, also. Protect your door's paint while prying them off.

 

Hmm I got no special tool. Maybe I can make one by myself.

So you put the tool behind the window and door handle cranks, then what? Is there some sort of U clips?

 

Yep - a U-clip needs to be removed. You CAN do it without the special tool!

One door done today. It takes an awful lot of time before you figure out how and what tools to use. However removing the window crank was one of the things that went pretty smooth.
i read the post and tried the rag trick but I used one of those "ropes?" you secure trailer loads with. it worked perfectly.

When I installed the clip I folded a thin rag around the clip and when the crank was in place I just pushed the rag down.

That did it! Now to install, just push the clip back all the way onto the crank and push it onto the shaft - easy!

 

Roll the windows all the way up before instaling the handles (just lighty connect handle to teeth on crank piece), then when that is done, you can push them on so they match in the same position/diretion on each side. A cleaner overall look in my opinion.

 

That was my thought too, cleaner look if they have the same position. Now one side is all done
